Finally got Cortana to talk to me, again I asked her what the time is and she gave me the meaning of time instead even though it's clearly showing it understood me with "What's the time?" in the search bar. Not impressed.

Anyway to get the US version of Cortana? The UK one sounds so robotic.

Just installed W10 as an upgrade using media creation tool, and it took about 2 hours including download. It went smoothly with no issues.

What did surprise me was that I was using Start8 on W8.1, and when I pressed the Start button up came the Start8 menu rather then the new W10 menu. I can easily flip between the two if I want.

I am not a fan of the live tiles menu anyway - so I am just going to leave it with Start8 menu.

I have it. MS edge is just as bad as explorer. Probably explorer in a different shell. You'd have thought they might try and get the browser right after all these years.

Can anyone confirm whether Windows Live Essentials are still there (and functioning) after upgrading to Windows 10? I'm dying to upgrade, but holding back as I'm very keen not to lose Windows Live Mail.

Many thanks.

How do you set-up Windows Hello? I've tried searching for it but with no luck. When I go to sign-in options I can set up a PIN or change my picture password but that is it.

For one of the big features of Win10 they've hidden it well

I even asked Cortana but she just gave me web results for how to activate Windows 8

Slow and jerky, same as explorer. The whole OS feels the same as windows 8 in new clothes.

It needs a special webcam to work.

I've read some poor reviews about Edge. Seemingly the browser is something MIcrosoft just can't master.

"One of the biggest problems with Windows 10, at least in the near-release build I used, was the Edge web browser."

"Windows 10 also includes a new browser, called Edge. It may be new, but it sadly sticks to the past in a number of ways."

I'm attempting the install via the microsoft iso tool instead of windows update. Should work hopefully..................
So, you are assuming that if you upgrade using the .iso that it will produce an activated install?

I now have access to the .iso's and produce keys through MSDN, but I don't wast to lose the legitimate licence I would get from upgrading from 7 to 10.

It seems Windows Media Centre is not aprt of '10' now, so WIN10 will not play DVD's, Microsoft advise a stand alone player will be released 'later in the year'

is this the case at all ??

I don't know why some are having issues: My Desk Top PC isn't exactly new and also has many things that could be problems like satellite cards and freeview cards that are getting long in the tooth as well.

I did a clean install and it found drivers for everything apart from one card and when I supplied an old driver for that, it accepted it with no problems. The drive it found for one sat card worked but some functions didn't and after checking it, I found it was a 2009 drive and so updated it to the latest which is 2012. All working just fine now.

So all in all, Windows 10 seems a lot more acceptable of drivers than old windows versions ever were: They used to fight you every inch of the way.

So if, as many are, just upgrading, then you should have all your working drivers already in the machine and they will be more up-to-date than some Windows 10 is supplying.

All this incompatibility seems strange if it's working just fine on my getting on a lot desk top.

Receiving the upgrade isn't the same thing as the upgrade trying to install itself, which isn't the same thing as the installation process completing successfully.

AFAIK so far we've only had a few reports of successful installations.

Just curious, whats you're definition of a clean install, did you upgrade first, did you use the win10 iso?

There are so many stand alone players that are far better than Windows Media Player, it's not really needed any more.

VLC Player is free and most peoples first choice for playing everything. You can ever get it on Android now.

I used A windows ISO and installed to a completely clean hard drives. I still have my Windows 7 sitting on another drive and I just swap over the leads.

For the last two days I have been having a crash course (pun intended) in Windows 10 and moving/installing vital programmes I need from the Windows 7 drive to the Windows 10 one.

My system has many drives and most of my "junk" stuff is all on other drive and so is already there: pictures, music, everything else that is not system stuff. I always have my windows on a separate drive so that I can change/upgrade etc and still have everything else where it always was.

I have almost completely set up Windows 10 to how I want it now and in a few days time, I will be wiping my old Windows 7 drive and moving on.

I had to reboot to get the "Get Windows 10" box to tell me it was downloading. 84% now, not too long left.
