I'm now downloading Windows 10 via http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10 instead of waiting for it to appear itself which could take hours, days, weeks... it's now having to download the whole thing again even though the installation directory was already on my system, but has only managed 9% in an hour. I take it Microsoft's servers are being hammered! It may have been quicker to wait.

Well I can't say for sure if your USB WI-FI Dongle will work but I have an old one that I used to use occasionally: TP-Link TL-WN322G
It worked just fine in XP but stopped working when I upgraded to Windows 7 as there was just no driver for it. Then years later some bright person wrote a driver themselves for Windows 7 and put it up on the internet for everyone - Bingo! It's sprang back to life. I have tried it out on a clean install of Windows 10 (so no driver for it was present in the first place) and Windows 10 instantly found a driver for it and installed it. So on the whole, Windows 10 seems to do OK at finding drivers itself and is also very easy going on accepting some old drivers that weren't actually made for Windows 10. So all in all, I'd say there is a good chance that yours will work with Windows 10, but their is only one way to find out!

"Ok Google" is find for use on my phone as it saves messing around with the microscopic onscreen keyboard - But Cortana isn't ever coming to a PC near me EVER! - There is enough to drive me mad on PCs as it is without some sarcastic old trout telling me what's what.

Installed, seems ok so far. Not happy with Edge, it didn't import contacts properly and you can't drag and drop URLs onto the favourites bar to bookmark them.

Mentioned before here, but for those with problems:
Windows Media Creation Tool page was posted by MS earlier today It allow creation of a bootable Install DVD or USB Flash or just to download the W10 iso file for use later. If you create a DVD or USB Flash, it has repair Tools on it (Start-up Repair) if computer doesn't boot Or just Install again. (Don't format or delete partitions, when offered, for a truly Clean Install, if you didn't backup every thing previously) All your old files get put in windows.old then. If your computer is still working with W7/W8.1 but you are not seeing the Get Windows 10 notification, or update fails, the Media Creation Tool also offers an Upgrade button which should do the same thing. For safety's sake, I recommend everyone should make a DVD or USB Flash first, in case of a non-booting result. Note that they can also be used at any time in the future to do Repair Installs (In-place Upgrades), when W10 Refresh or Reset throws a wobbly, as well as being suitable for clean installs. |

Couple of minor issues so far, I have experienced:
1. The big search bar on the taskbar covers pinned icons. f you minimise the search bar to just an icon, you can see the icons again. 2. Tried to delete windows.old folder and got in a mess due to permissions etc. even logging on as System did not help. I had backed up the new install and did a restore. Search web for help, and it said simplest way of removing it is just to clean up system files using Disk Cleanup. Tried this, and it go rid of all but two files that required "TrustedInstaller" permission (or something like that). Tried to change permissions according to web info but still did not work. In the end, I booted into a Macrium Recovery Boot disk and used its file explorer to manually delete the files and directory structure. 3. Not really a problem but windows restore points are off by default, and had to turn them on. So far, I have only had one app that will not work but that was pretty temperamental even with windows 8.1. My wifi printer worked first time etc. as well. Overall, I am quite impressed so far. As I said in earlier post, Start8 works well, and for time being I am going to stick to it. |

Just finished doing a clean install. I had to do an upgrade from 8.1 first so it would activate my serial but when I then did a clean install from a USB stick I skipped the serial number pages and it still activated once the install had finished so I guess it is now locked to the PC rather than my old serial number.
So far everything seems to be working ok. High DPI support is improved as the taskbar now spans both of my screens and text on my second low dpi display is not fuzzy like it was in Windows 8. Now I just need to install all of my software.

Oddly it seems they're removed the setup tool that was available on that page, which gave you the option of installing WIndows 10 on the current PC or creating a USB/DVD installation for another PC. Now it just links to the ISO files.
http://postimg.org/image/v6ycvcx4d/ Note that the 64 bit tool allows creation of 32 and 64 bit isos https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10 Try right-click Run as Admin |

Will it ever update to it? Now it's telling me in so many words to just be patient as it's being rolled out in waves and they'll notify me when it's ready. That's on my Windows 7 desktop. My Windows 8.1 laptop is currently in the process of upgrading, and telling me to sit back and relax

Finally finished, had to download and install gesture support for touchpad afterwards though as two finger scroll wouldn't work. It's a lot slower to start up compared to 8.1. Might try a totally clean Install later.

Been playing around with this on my Surface for a while and happy with it so far. All my programs work fine with it so decided to go ahead and upgrade my desktop.
Sadly it's telling me it's not ready yet to upgrade, despite downloading the almost 6GB worth of files last night. |

I can confirm, after extensive research, that porn is a lot faster on Windows 10.

I do laugh at the way that all programmes are now called Apps - You will be forced into the kiddie mobile world if you like it or not!

I can't see Cortana anywhere. When I search for it it just takes me to related apps in the store.

Did you do a refresh or a factory reset?
I kept getting a page telling me to try restart or use the trouble shooter. Under trouble shooter, there's a menu that gives you three options. One was for reinstalling but lose some apps. I clicked that one. It took a while but it worked ok in the end. Is this the same problem you're having? Mine conked out thanks to my anti-virus being incompatible. |

However, Cortana won't activate for me, saying it's not available in my region, even though it is. |
