I have the same with my win 7 too.

I don't see it anywhere. If I search for it it gives me a list of Cortana commands that take me to Bing when I click them.

is the windows 10 better than the windows 8 and 7?

No sign of Windows 10 here yet. In the app, the names of the options imply that if you click on them, something will happen in terms of your download, but nothing happens.

In terms of looks,NO (it's a backward step). In terms of speed and reliability not much change imo.
As it's free it's worth upgrading, i wouldn't pay for it though.

Really speed is no change? that's a huge disappointment, what about boot speeds.

The change from XP to 8.1 (jumping Vista and W7 involved massive infrastructure changes,and so it is mot surprising you had problems.
Despite all the hype, the change from 8.1 to 10. is not such a big change - more a refinement.

I would be very surprised if you encountered to many issues. If you make a full image backup, you can easily revert to 8.1 if you get any real problems.

If you click on the search bar, and click the settings icon, is Cortana greyed out?

Do you have to do something to trigger the upgrade?

I have the icon in the Notification bar, and I reserved my upgrade a month ago, but I have had no notification telling it is ready to install. When I open the 'Get Windows 10' programme it gives me the option "Ok, notify me whe ready'.

Edit: When I open Windows Update and check the update history, it is showing 'Upgrade to Windows 10' as having failed twice.

For those unsure whether to update, you can test the new version by downloading it as an iso and running it inside a virtual machine. You wont be able to activate it but it will still work for a period so you can test your favourite apps.

You could go into windows update and see if there's anything that needs updated first. That's what happened to mine.

I am going to wait until everyone on here gives it the all clear - or not as the case may be!

Just did that (I have edited my earlier post), it installed the 6 Updates for 8.1, but failed on the W10 upgrade for some reason.

Microsoft are rolling it out gradually, not everyone will get it today.

However there is a workaround... Download the tool from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10 which gives you the option to install it now, but the downloads are extremely slow at the moment. Mine is on 40% after 3 and a half hours.

And here is another workaround, courtesy of the Daily Mirror:

A warning: undertake this process at your own risk, because Mirror Online has been unable to test it.

Open your hard drive and navigate to the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download (changing the letter C if you've given your hard drive a different name.

Delete all the files in this folder.

Open command prompt by bashing the the Windows key and typing CMD. This should show you a black window with white writing.

Make sure you are signed in as an administrator by right-clicking and selecting "run as administrator".

Go to the Windows Update screen by hitting the windows key and typing "Windows Update".

Click the check for updates button and while the computer is thinking, go back in the command prompt screen, type “wuauclt.exe/updatenow” and press enter.

NOTE: I have not tried this myself yet

All done and dealt now on all the PC desktops and laptops here.
No issues, all ran fine and every program and driver running as before and better.
Very quick and painless install process too.

Did do one with the media download update, it worked the same way, may be better to do it that way than wait for your Get Windows 10 to come alive.

Got Cortana working too and on the desktop with a cheap mic, can talk and she talks back, but had to go into settings to make her respond to 'Hey Cortano' to start her off.

Hurry up MS and get the addons into Edge, the browser is good, but no addons and this site with ads, ahhh!

Just about to install win 10 on a Acer lappy that is 11 years old (might be 11) using a pendrive now i'm unable to boot using pen but clicked on setup now this lappy had win xp i installed win 7 ultimate,

At the mo it is installing win 10 and is at 35% the lappy also as 2GB of mem well the lappy is a Acer travelmate 2420 this will be fun.

So after downloading the files three times, first time yesterday, then when opening the Get W10, it downloaded it again while I wasn't looking, it stopped responding so I restarted the Surface and guess what, it downloaded it again. But now it's installed.

Mixed feelings so far, if you wander off to desktop part while in tablet mode, you cannot open the virtual keyboard, you have to switch to desktop mode.

Pinning of sideloaded apps to start is not working in tablet mode, guess what, switch to desktop mode, it works there, and switch back. Looks like in W8 they neglected the desktop, so it was the touch part's turn now.

And OMG, they killed the charm bar. The bastards! Which means minor logistics problems if you want to open the old app's settings.

Edge does not take over IE/ Internet settings. I have configured restricted sites in IE, they still work in IE, but Edge is ignoring them.

So nothing without a solution so far. All things that I can live with, but I hope they will fix them, soon.

We have just upgraded at work to Windows 7...
