If they upgrade to Win10 quickly then they won't have to waste time on Win7.

Perhaps Cortana isn't working due to people not having microphones, the drivers for them (if they do) not being installed properly.

Lettice, I assume you selected English (UK) when setting it up?

Great stuff. I did a upgrade install this morning and a clean install this afternoon......and now my key has apparently been blocked

I have the icon in the Notification bar, and I reserved my upgrade a month ago, but I have had no notification telling it is ready to install. When I open the 'Get Windows 10' programme it gives me the option "Ok, notify me whe ready'.

Edit: When I open Windows Update and check the update history, it is showing 'Upgrade to Windows 10' as having failed twice.”

You can try running wuauclt.exe /updatenow at an elevated command prompt (cmd). It worked on my Surface Pro 3.

It selected that by default, so no selection from me, the upgrade would have passed that on from 8.1

Do like the feedback feature, much like we had as insiders, its already asked me what I thought of the upgrade process.

The activation servers are struggling I expect or even slowed down. It will say not available, just let it do it by itself over the next week.
If you logged in with your MS account during the upgrade, it will have registered. You would not have been able to install correctly without a valid upgrade product key.

I agree, don't see why everyone is in such a rush.

Installed. Screen said start now it's just black with the mouse cursor. Been like this for 5 minutes. Hmm.

If you are clean installing from iso, skip the product keys and 'do it later'.

If you have previously been upgraded from a Genuine W7/W8.1, the servers should have your machine ID.

Entering old or Preview keys may cause confusion for the activation

One thing I wondered about was, if you want to go back to Windows 7, is it possible?”

Yes if you do a full image backup to an external disk. See my earlier posts in this thread.

So far I've only be able to upgrade one of my PCs to Windows 10.

My Dell laptop is still "Activating for my specific computer" (whatever that means), and my desktop isn't playing ball either.

I don't really understand why it worked fine on my old 5 year + old Windows 7 laptop, but refuses to let me update my pretty much brand new Dell XPS laptop.

By the way, I triggered my update by going to 'Windows Update' and checking for updates.

The Windows 10 update process saves an image of your old Windows 7 or 8.1 system, and can be restored directly within 1 month of upgrading.

Does one need a Microsoft account to download windows 10?

Does updating to Win10 from Win7 also update IE browser?.

I'm on IE9 and need this version exclusively for a smartcard reader that won't run on later versions.

Thought I read somewhere that users of 'Home Premium' or below won't be able to 'choose' whether to update or not on some MS software.

No http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10

No, and you don't have to use one at install either.

You can link your Billy or local User account later

Note that when entering email addresses for linked or MS Accounts, Windows 10 will create a user profile with a bit of your email address

So billy-value@isp.co.uk may give a user account C:\Users\billy

Use Billy-Value@isp.co.uk so Caps are preserved during setup. It looks ugly otherwise

What fixed it for me was this:

Start > Settings > Time & Language > Region & Language and select UK download. For some reason it hadn't downloaded the UK speech recognition.

Had to download the latest vmware player code, the old one requested it.
never tried this on any of the insider builds.
But love the way it auto resizes the guest OS. Another win 10 win for me.

Chrome does that automatically if you sign in on the browser. Nothing to do with Windows/Microsoft at all.
