Currently installing on my Windows 7 desktop.

Not going to upgrade my Win 8.1 laptop yet until I've had a chance to play with it.

Very much so.
Also will be nice to see some of those analytic OS reports, would expect 8.1 to almost disappear soon.

Expect W7 to still be dominant, as business still holds on to it.

W7 was always the best I'm not surprised.

There was actually an "Upgrade this PC" option.”

That's what I did, though you don't want to boot from the CD or USB stick, run the setup program from Windows 7/8 and let it do its thing to upgrade it

You don't need a product key. Just look at Computer properties and check activation.

Well have had a bit of a disaster here, installed as fresh from the insider download from USB, but now no longer have an activated version of win 10.

You may just need to retry activation a few times.

I've just done an upgrade to a Windows 7 virtual machine and I had to try activation about a dozen times before it succeeded.

Probably just server congestion.

Installed W10 on my Linx 10 W8.1 tablet to see how it looked, I had never tried any of the previews so this is my first impression.
Installed perfectly, didn't even ask for my product key.
For desktop PCs it looks great.
For tablets? I think it's a step back, to the point where I might take the Linx back to 8.1.

I hated Metro on a PC but on a tablet all those swipe gestures worked great. It was fast and easy to navigate. Go straight to the last running program? Swipe from the left. Bring up IE taskbar by swiping up? Go back a page in IE by swiping from the left?
All gone.
Swiping from the left now brings up all running programs, which you used to be able to do by swiping from the left an inch and stopping. Now there is no option. IE has been replaced by Edge which as far as I can see has no tablet mode, just tiny buttons too small to quickly and comfortably hit with your fingers. And its task bar and URL now don't vanish. And swiping from the left does nothing, to go back a page you have to hit the tiny back arrow.

I'm in the amazing position, after recommending Classic Shell to fix W8 on a PC to now hope they make something that brings back W8s swipe gestures. For tablets W10 does, at first glance, seem to be a step back.

But for my main PC I will definitely be installing it.

Are you using it in tablet mode?
I know someone who has one of those, will see how they get on with it.
Was it tight on space with the install?

Update all sorted. Didn't take that long. Can;t use Cortana as they want me to sign in to a Microsoft account, which I didn't want to do, I have an Office 365 subscription, but doesn't recognise that adress as a Microsoft account for some reasons, so won't let me use it.

I like the look, seems fresher and more clean. Will have a proper play and see how I get on.

Nothing here. Looking at my Windows Update history, it says 'Upgrade to Windows 10' failed. Should I be worried?

Maybe I shouldn't have jumped the gun and reinstalled a activated version of 8.1 back to 10 via upgrade as it seems I not only one having activation issues reading this thread

You could try the following. Go to c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download, delete everything inside. You need to be an administrator to do that. Then run on command prompt wuaclt.xe /updatenow again as administrator. When you go to Windows Update it should be downloading the files again. It's possible that your files got corrupted during the download and Windows can't cope with it. At your own risk though

Mine isn't activating either, but it says "Windows Can't Activate. Try Again Later". I assume the server is being throttled by everyone trying at once to download and verify W10. Try in the morning when there will be less traffic as Americans will be in bed still.

Windows Update only offers me 8.1 to update to. Do I have to update to that first or can I go straight to 10?

Am on Win8

You are right of course but I do not trust MS recovery as it has let me down in the past. I used to use Norton ghost but that is not supported. Acronis let me down.

I always use Macrium Reflect Free as it has never let me down.
Easus Todo free is good as well but slower than Macrium.

I would advise anybody to make an image backup anyway as insurance just in case the MS rollback fails.

An upgrade path is only from 8.1 and 7.0 SP1, so yes, you need to update to 8.1 first if you want 10 for free.
