Go to settings>updates & security>recovery you have the option in there to go back within a month of upgrading, be warned though, you will need to reinstall some apps and programs if you do go back.

It is more like 10 being the 'last half dozen' versions.

The thing binding the slightly disparate bunch together is the 'look and feel' plus Universal apps.
And one might as well think of Universal apps as being a Android Art/Adobe Flash like add-on.

The whole point of 10 being Microsoft wants developers to only use their platform so making development singular is the main part of the plan.Get it right and they will likely control most of the advertising on Windows, an income likely now exceeding OS sale incomes.

If 10 is running initially a bit slow its likely downloading that 500MB/1GB patch update.

I scheduled an update from 7 last night which had completed this morning. Don't know how long it took or what the boot up is like yet but I had a little play this morning and quite like it. Didn't notice any issues with my existing apps. So far so good!

I think when you uses the media creation tool it does this during the second stage there. Having that happen during normal use sounds scary.

What I HAVE been getting are Windows Defender definition updates ALL DAY LONG. Not pushed down to me, but if I go and check, I've had six of them come down in the past day.

I have already made backups of windows 32 bit and 64 bit on DVD's.

I have upgraded one of my PC's but I want to tread very carefully with my main computer so want to make a backup.

Word of warning--unless you've got a real nifty expensive SSD, I suspect it's not that big, right? Mine for example (a few years old) is a measley 115 GB or so. It makes my system fly, but I will say it also made me almost completely run out of space from the Windows 10 upgrade process (since all of Win 8 is kept plus the install files for 10).

If the same happens to you, then you really have to decide if you want to wipe the Win 8 rollback and Win 10 install files or not. I did, but not everyone will want to.

If you do, use the Disk Cleanup tool, with the System Files option (there's a button for that inside the app).

I have installed 64bit with 4gb and a single core laptop and it much more responsive. It only costs £20 to buy an extra 2gb.

Yes.....PC settings......Update and Recovery.....Recovery......There is then a Return to W8.1 choice.

The '$Windows.~BT' folder is hidden so make you've un-hidden them.

If it's there and around 5-6GB it means it's downloaded already. So you should hopefully get the prompt to install it.

Regretting upgrading from 7 now. W10 boots fine, displaying the Windows logo, but when it goes to the login screen, the monitor pops up a message saying ''Cannot Display This Video Mode'. And I can't get the PC to boot into recovery/safe mode so I'm stuck, yay!

Not getting anything here still. But when I look at my update history in Windows Update it seems to have failed. Is this anything to be worried about?

The upgrade went through on my W8 laptop yesterday but I'm still waiting for the go-ahead on my W7 desktop.

Luckily it was always my plan to delay upgrading the desktop.

Will this tool work if you still haven't been prompted to upgrade? I've now had 7 failed attempts to upgrade since yesterday in Windows Update.

I've just run it and told it to upgrade my machine, currently download the files.

I hadn't had the prompt so used this and worked fine for me.

To get W10 Free, now or in the coming 12 months, you can only upgrade. eg Home to Home. 32 to 32. 64 to 64

Your machine(s) details are logged on MS servers as having done so and thereby qualifying you for that free edition W10 for the life of the machine.

If you have a 64 bit processor, 32 or 64 is allowed after the upgrade has completed, and you check that Activation was successful.
You can make 32 or 64 clean installs whenever you want (or Repair Installs/In-place Upgrades)


Only Clean Installs are possible, not Upgrades, to go from 32-64 or 64-32

License keys are no longer required after a successful upgrade to W10.
Leave the boxes blank, if asked, and Skip the page
