This 'Something happened' message didn't even come with an error code, let alone an error description. Hard to believe even MS could release an OS with that in 'the code' to the consumer/general public.
The MS Chimps have included plenty of useless messages and dodgy code

Here's another two

No it's normal as its happened to a lot of people and the reason is because it hasn't downloaded fully yet and it is trying to make sure the installation goes as smooth as possible.

It say's on acer's and microsofts websites to just wait for it to notify you for the smoothest experience.

It also say's that it could take day's or even weeks. If you go into c: folder and look for the $windows file when you allow to unhide folders in system option/properties and you should see when you click right click on $folder and click properties you can see the size of the folder.

Mine is currently sitting at 3.91GB and someone on here already said that is should be 5-6 GB.

Hope that helps

Shaun
Oh ok, that's good to hear.

One thing I noticed in 8 (Thought 10 would have fixed it but obviously not) I connect via my ethernet for broadband (I'm with talk talk fibre) now I notice on occasion that the ethernet connection drops out and I have to reset it via the network settings page. Thought it might have been something to do with 8.1 but happened today with 10 so I can rule that out. Wonder if it's my ethernet adaptor or possibly my modem a bit wonky

What I'm going to try now, is right click on the MediaCreationToolx64.exe file, select 'Run as administrator' and see what happens.
That worked, but I haven't run setup.exe yet.

Got a current issue while running Ubuntu on Virtualbox with Win10 as the host machine.

Firefox keeps freezing up every time I change webpage. I've installed the latest version of Virtualbox as well as guest additions with no luck.

I think I wait at least gives a chance for any bugs to be ironed out before I get it plus chance for software manufacturers to get updates too

Yes from what I gather there were problems with Win 8.1 on ASUS laptops when it first came out.

That's why I've only just upgraded to it.

Did you at least get the Update Icon?

I haven't even had the icon yet.

I got it on my Win7 laptop after updating Win7.

My All in one is Asus too so maybe that's why I didn't get it. The upgrade tool worked with no problems though and all the hardware seems to be working fine.

Continuing with the installation of Windows will change your display language. To change it back, you'll need to reinstall the language pack.

I've created an English (United Kingdom) 'image' on a USB stick, so what does that even mean.

Do you use any languages other than English on your PC, or is it an odd version of Windows?

I've had problems with Virtualbox and VMplayer. Their forums are full of complaints and possible solutions since W10 Preview was launched.

I gave up in the end and I haven't plucked up courage to try again yet
(both make my laptops unstable and last I tried Virtualbox - 2 weeks ago - it wouldn't load my isos at all)

Not as far as I know. It should be EN-GB (Windows 7 SP1).

So.

Performed the exact same upgrade procedure as yesterday. But this time, Windows 10 is activated, after the upgrade.

Imaging again at this point before I do anything else .....

Of course you can install W10 in a separate partition or blank hdd, but it is hard to see how it would activate.

However, I noticed W10 gets a new install code and does not reuse W7 code.

I wonder if MS have secretly decided to ignore the potential piracy issue working on basis that only a small minority will abuse things.

After all, the uptake on W8 was hamstrung by the huge number of people who remained W7.

I guess the acid test is to try it and see.
I would have thought you could activate it by putting in a valid W7/W8 product/serial key, but I'm not up to that stage yet.

Never had that notification myself, but at worst it'll swap you to US English. When the installation is fully complete there's an icon on the taskbar next to the time that says 'ENG' - click that and you can set your preferences and install the language pack. I had to install the language pack to enable the UK Cortana.

I'm having to go back to w7. When I installed w10 worked fine, it installed updates restarted and when it did the taskbar and wallpaper did nothing but constant refresh and couldn't do anything. Dodgy display driver I doubt.

I seem to have got it working again now. I made sure Ubuntu had all the updates applied and now it's working.
