Then don't use it.

Seriously. The lack of adblocking makes it dangerous, unstable and slow anyway.

Anyone else manage to get the Windows store working? I've tried so many fixes, looks like it's completely borked for me. Really don't want to have to reinstall.

I couldn't get it to work, so reverted back to 8.1 on my desktop. It's not working on my laptop W10 either.
I'll wait on updating the desktop again until I get some more feedback from others....

Runs fine for me...not noticed it being slow or unstable...certainly not 'dangerous'!

Ah, that sucks it didn't work on either of your machines. I'm hoping a fix comes along.

Anyone with an ASUS computer got Win 10 working?

Me, didn't even know it was ASUS until I upgraded to Win 10 tho. I guess I should count myself lucky it was a relatively easy transition?

Hmm I suppose there had to be one.

It would be nice if they (Microsoft or ASUS) let us know why we can't upgrade.

IMO people with ASUS need to start listing what model (and submodel if they know), and even better the graphics chip--not just the maker but the specific chip.

There's no way EVERY ASUS fails. Clearly some sub-line of theirs using a specific graphics chip--maybe as little as one model but perhaps a family of them--has a problem. ASUS, like most PC makers, changes technologies constantly inside their PCs, so it's unlikely the same chip (or even family of chips) was used for all that long.

And the other "A" company, "Acer" seems to have the same problem. Some series of their PCs with a specific graphics chip or family of chips that the upgrade doesn't like.

HP/Compaq, Dell and Lenovo, which own so much of the market, seem to mostly be okay--although I bet the bloatware the first two of those put on so many PCs is really causing problems for some.

My ASUS motherboard is H81M Series if that helps ... I don't have much more info than that, it says All Series and simply ASUS in the diagnostics.

This COULD be possibly relevant:

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/co...currently_not/

It mainly seems to be discussing the ASRock H97M Pro4, but also mentions the H81M-HDS (maybe they are the same board differently branded by different companies?) I mean a search of ASUS' website seems to show H81M with various other letter suffixes after it (vs. HDS).

This is also assuming you have the Processor they describe there too (the Intel Pentium G3258).

IF both of those things are true--that other H81Ms have the same microcode bug these people talk about, and a Intel Pentium G3258 or other processor from the same line is involved, clearly you'd have to pester ASUS themselves to see if this is the same problem (and if they also have a BIOS update that addresses it the way that this ASRock company seems to).

Hmm. This is worth reading too: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/i...06cba59?auth=1

It goes into other companies with that motherboard/chipset that are having a problem.

You can use the suggestion of disabling one of the two cores of your CPU (and it seems to work) but clearly that is a really lame and insufficient fix as anything other than as a short term one. Company by company I think people probably need to call up and demand fixes. Clearly Intel and Microsoft need to fix a bug, but if it's really true one company had a BIOS that fixes this (without having to turn off one of the cores, I mean), then clearly the other companies can do the same.

Oh, by the way, anyone with ANY kind of problem like this should download a program called "CPU-Z". Or perhaps Bellarc Advisor. They both give the kind of info you're going to need to effectively look up (or ask) for help from the Internet in general, but even the support people from your PC maker as well.

Windows 10 all installed. Working so far but will have to wait till it's been off over night to see how things settle down.

It's definitely better to have the Windows 7 feel back, and to go straight to the desktop rather than Metro screen.

8.1 let you go straight to the desktop if you wanted: http://www.digitaltrends.com/computi...n-windows-8-1/

You just slip had to use those tiles for half the apps.

Yes. 2 Asus laptops here so far have been upgraded without issue. Both laptops were fairly new though....

Although I do not use email client software myself (use gmail/webmail/tablets/phones) I have helped many over the last few days with their w10 upgrades and found some pretty awful email softeare clients that people are using that have not been updated for years.
Did try the MS official W10 mail app from the store. That is just so basic and awful (its not a patch on the outlook android/ios app).
But have put Mozilla thunderbird on these machines and all seems to work well.
Wondered what other people use for their email client software?

The new W10 mail app is a lot better than the W8 one, and its actually fine for most users needs.

Its limited on port changing options etc
Especially for those that have their own domains or isp/mail servers that use specific ports and many do these days.

Heard this morning that a new phase of Get Windows 10 icon upgrade alerts are coming online.
One thing to be aware of is that for the next week or so as people upgrade/install, they will be testing Cortana, Groove music, Xbox and the store, so it may be slower than you expect.
Im sure MS were well prepared, but it will still all need tweaking.
Would expect this weekend that a lot of people will be upgrading/installing.
So patience is the key.

Also, Ive seen a number had these Nvida failures in their GW10 icon reports. Ive done 10+ so far on peoples machines that had taht reported and not one of them failed on upgrade or clean install.

I've got an EeePC Netbook which I've had since 2011, and it upgraded no problems for me.

I tried Outlook 2016 Preview. Far too complex. Thunderbird for me, and I recommend to others.

I downloaded an ISO image as I plan to do a clean install. However one problem! Where do I find the product key? It is not in the ISO file and I have not been prompted to provide an e-mail address for it to be sent to.

Anyone know?
