Well at least it's a logical wrong answer as opposed to some I have heard which are just random assumptions plucked out of the air that make no sense in any language.

Simplest way to put it to them without melting their brain would be to say "But you have 500gb free on your hard drive so you could fit it in there!" That's a logical answer that would be understood without having to explain what was wrong with their first statement.

How much is the all bells and whistles version as I want to know how much free I'll be getting it for?

Interestingly, the release next month is going to be quite a bodge, and as they slowly change eveything to the new Universal interface, things may slow down at each and every change.

What we get now is likely to be quite different from how it will be in a year or so, if they convert piecemeal.

There is no evidence it will be a bodge. Expectations are that there could be another four or five releases before the RTM stage.
Otherwise, that is how W10 is supposed to work. It will be different in 12 months time and different again 12 months further on. New features and improvements will introduced via updates.

Unification is what it is about. Yes, there are some benefits for the user, especially if they buy into the unified mobile platform. But the drawbacks are there.

I don't think you are reading W10 right...... Improvements will be made and new features added as a matter of course. Not sure how you can question 'Improvements', each time an OS is changed it offers up improvements over the previous OS. With W10 these will be integrated into windows updates, so your OS will always be the current one.
There is no sign that you won't be able to use TP software on the desktop if Windows services are only available via the cloud.
Yes, unification is what they are aiming for and in time, it's what everyone will expect from there tech.
W10 isn't going to be for everyone and there will be the usual complainers who see negativity as a right of passage, but, W10 has to be the most tested OS yet due to the insider programme. It's been getting positive reactions from insiders.
Time will tell, but, for once, I think the system should be given a fair crack before people go off the deep end.

Well I'm not moving on from Windows 7 until they start thinking up some silly names for their operating systems. Windows 10 is simply not good enough.

Hi Guys,

I have a quick question - one of my PCs isn't working correctly, its throwing up errors that Windows system files are missing. Having done numerous scans (Avira & Malwarebytes), the errors seem to be legit. System restore has also stopped working, having failing to restore to every point I attempt - even in safe mode.

This has led me to wanting to completely clean install Windows but I can no longer locate the original recovery disc and there appears to be no recovery partition on the hard drive.

My PC is eligable for the Windows 10 upgrade (as I've had the icon in my taskbar for the past month or so now) and I did reserve my copy. If I was to download and use the latest Insider Preview build of Windows 10, would it automatically get updated to the final release on 29th July or like Windows 8, will it expire itself and require me to buy a new license when it does get released?

I'm not sure the exact details of how the licensing will work are known yet, but I'm sure it will be fine.

Download the iso Build 10162 and burn to DVD (right-click iso) or USB Flash (with Rufus)

You can do a clean install if you want (by booting USB or Flash) or you can upgrade the broken W7, from W7, by just double-clicking the setup.exe file and select the 'keep files etc option"

Obviously, you wouldn't format in that case


It helps if you can create a System Image of your W7 partitions to external drive first and have access to another computer if you run into problems (so you can Google and post here for advice)

They are doing this whole shebang to distribute the load on their servers. I'd say they will take into consideration when one joined the insider programme. But if you install the latest Technical Preview you will at least have something functioning well, even if you don't get to download the RTM on 29th.

I was reading that the rollout will be staggered - not everyone will get it on the 29th.

Regarding the upgrade procedure I would rather wait a few months until any problems-if indeed there are any-before upgrading to W10. I'm not particularly good at sorting out computer problems, my skills are in other directions.

They are rolling it out gradually so that they don't have an appelesque foul up of all there servers. Also with insiders getting it first, any initial hiccups should be ironed out quickly.
Rolling it out over a few days makes perfect sense to me.

Better option is to download windows 10 iso and install on an external usb drive using win2usb (simple giogle search).

You will need to change bios to boot from usb first.

Thus creates a bootable external hard drive with windows 10 preview,and you can now use pc without deleting (broken) windows 7.

note: ms have backtracked on saying testers will get a free W10 licence. What they say now is testers can always have latest test version - each of which time expires of course. They say that is effectively a free licence.

Perhaps but I don't think that's the main issue. Apparently you will get a message confirming if your machine is compatible.

I'm not convinced that the OEMs would have tested every single type of their W7 and above machines with W10. For some, there will no doubt be issues with drivers and OEM bundled stuff that may have issues with W10. It's such a massive rollout (unprecedented at up to a billion systems potentially !) - it's inevitable that it won't goes smoothly for everyone.

Probably another couple of weeks till a disk slips out from one of the big box shifters as probably by now they've turned it into a 'gold' edition and the shifters are having a play so they can be ready to support it from day one.

From what I gather they have done a massive cull on drivers. 2 GB ram. W8.x and an ok cpu does not mean your PC is compaible.
