Apparently there's a "1448" update too, but I didn't get it. No idea why, but the Internet in general says it exists.

EDIT - Okay this is odd. I just went BACK into the WinUpdate tool and KB3081448 is now there and being applied. It seems like (in my case) the other updates simply had to be installed first.

Microsoft has no knowledgebase articles for any of these updates at the time I am posting this.

EDIT 2: KB3081448 seems to be a big update (a cumulative one) and is a big download. It also requires a scheduled reboot.”

Re. KB 3081448, it happened on all our pcs the same way. there must be some dependency that requires the other two to be installed first eg an update to the update.

This happens more frequently than you realise - its just we are watching 10 updates like a hawk

As i said in the other main 10 thread, I downloaded it on my main laptop, and then it got beamed to slower laptop using WUDO (PC Lan only delivery). Worked well.

I've tried both the 2013 Kingsoft Office (as it then was) and FreeOffice and at the time they both seemed to have competent replacements for Microsoft Word, etc. so they are worth taking a look at along with the usual OO and LO.

I should add that I've not tried standalone, individual software packages, such as AbiWord, so I cannot comment on how good they are.

I have never tried Free office, to be honest Libre office and Scribus does what i need in the office type situation. I have got a old version of quarkxpress, but Scribus does what I need.

Fix things perhaps? Maybe add things?

What do you think they do? Secretly spy on you?

I bet your one of these people who have tape over your webcam if you have a laptop or tablet!

It would be nice if they said what the updates did, they do with previous versions, why the big secret?

We already know that windows 10 is more invasive on privacy than any other windows OS.

I would not put any money on that bet if I was you, you would lose.

An interesting move, Apple deciding to support Edge above most things, including iTunes for Windows

They didn't decide to support Edge, they've been using HTTP Live Streaming the past few years and now Edge happens to support it.

Apologies (if needed)

I did not realise it worked standard on Android which has supported it for years.
That would also mean iTunes for Windows can play it.

'iTunes for Windows technically supports HLS, but for reasons unknown the company has never given it options for tuning into live press events.'

So, I Think I'll stick to my first comment on the matter, though maybe iTunes will get the same treatment now!

And you think that is really telling us what these updates do? Just a load of file names that 99.9% would have no idea what they are.
Even something like fix this bug or that bug, or add this or that would be fine.

Just install the updates, its what I've done with w7 and no problems and to date no issues with w10 on my pro 3

I never install updates until i am sure they work and do not mess up the computer, that is why I set the updates to notify, but do not download or install.
Not that Windows 8.1 does a very good job at notifying, normally finds out at the log in screen, which I do not see that often as I do not have a password to log into my computer.

I have got all the updates that are available for 8.1 now anyway, no doubt there will be some more next week.

Knowing MS it would not surprise me.
At the end of the day, it is my computer and I got every right to know what is being put on it.

Some of it is understandable.

But what do they gather about you? Its not really you at the end of the day, just a bunch of stats they gather...you don't really come into it as a person. To be honest I find it sad that people worry about this stuff, very sad.

I find it sad that people allow invasion of their privacy and do not bother about it. It is a bunch of stats that could in theory be traced back to you.
How do you know what info they take? MS admits to looking in your email and using it for Cortana, i presume that is only in hotmail and using their apps. I do not use hotmail or what ever the latest trend is to call it.

I do not want to be tracked around the net by MS and that includes google as well as any other advertising network, with is why I use Ghostery.

Have you ever thought about why Microsoft need all this info all of a sudden? Never had it as bad on other versions of windows, so why with 10?

That's an appropriate comment given this news story:

Heads Up, LGBT Teens: This Creepy AF Windows 10 Feature Could Automatically Out You To Your Parents
It seems this is a real-life feature that’s automatically enabled for Windows 10 users who register with “family” accounts, which prompted one dad to call out the “creepy-ass email” he wasn’t expecting to receive from Microsoft, saying, “I don’t want this. I have no desire to spy on my boy,” and warning teens, “If you have Windows 10 now, your parents might be getting the same kind of report I did. Don’t assume your own computer has your back.”

It gets worse
I know I do not use family accounts, but the more I hear about this sort of thing about Windows 10, the more I want to avoid it for use on my main computer or any computer now come to think of it.
Maybe I should get a laptop quickly before they stick 10 on it if I am going to get one.

They all do it, and who do you think Linux volunteers often work for?

And that 'run forever' bug on,usually single tasking IOS, likely had a purpose!

Why did Microsoft decide to give free upgrades for Win7 and 8 to Window 10, but they never attempted it for those who had Windows 7 and could be tempted to Windows 8?

Do even Microsoft realise that every other Operating System they release is not 'great value for money'

I'm looking at you Windows Millenium and Vista.

"They are giving away Windows 10?" I'll wait for Windows 11.
