Well, on second attempt I got the media creation tool to run, but unfortunately it got to the same point (8%) then I got a clunky looking black and white progress bar, then a message saying attempting something or other (it flashed up too quick to read) then it said "restoring your previous version of windows" and went back to Windows 7 again. This seems destined not to happen.

When you ran the Windows 10 compatibility utility did it flag up any possible issues?
Microsoft will release the “Threshold 2” release of Windows 10 in November as the Windows 10 Fall Update.
It has been rumoured November 2nd, but MS have not confirmed that date.
Threshold 2 is the internal code name for the update
The version number is 1511 ('15' for the year and '11' for the month).
Users can update to this version of Windows 10 directly from the RTM release, without having to install any prior builds or updates.
Those upgrading from previous versions of Windows will install the fall update, not the RTM version.

I wonder if "Windows as a service" is such a great idea. So far it resulted in a lower quality with an attitude why bother to test something properly, we just fix it and release it tomorrow. They don't even publish change logs anymore if it's "just" bugs.

It is actually more logical to use YYMMDD, eg for a file archive system with multiple versions of same file :-

As I said it's day month year, always has been and always will be. Lot's of things in life may not fit someone's idea of logic but it's how things are.
I use the English (proper) date format on my computer and my files are listed in day month and year, newest at the top and I've never found it an issue

If you sort by date an actual date format is irrelevant. I think Americans use their date format for alphanumeric sorting/filing, so they have entries from the same month together, then come days and then years.

I was talking about sorting on filenames, not sorting based on file created dates.
There are now recognised file namng conventions using yyyymmdd in fact.

Anyway, even though I am not a a great fan of the US style of naming, it is pompous of you to state the UK convention is the proper way, any more than saying numbers should use period for decimal point, and comma for thousands separator (reversed in Europe).

Computer people tend to use the ISO8601 standard date format which goes YYMMDD or YYYYMMDD.

I was talking about US formatting, not ISO. ISO is good if you need a date as a locale-less string, but you should present a date in a format in a locale of the user.

Well given we have a far greater history I don't think it's pompous at all.
Anyone who doesn't use a comma to designate thousands at my place of work has their work rejected and sent back. As Ivan IV states in his post formats should be relevant to each country. What next I-ran instead of Iran?
