I've requested a poll on this thread (along the lines of the last two weeks). I'm interested on how each episode is received, but probably not so interested to keep requesting polls each week until the series finishes.

For those who care
week 1
533 votes
poor = 6.56% (combination of poor/very poor)
ok = 6.75%
good = 86.69% (combination of good/very good/excellent)

week 2
484 votes
poor = 8.06%
ok = 6.20%
good = 85.74%

..so it appears that both episodes were equally well received by DS forum members. If this was the only poll that counted the BBC and RTD would be very happy.

The only thing to comment on is that in week one, the "good" % remained constant at 86% from start to finish. The "good" % in week two started off at 95% (@100 total votes) and steadily slipped to the 85% figure. See I am a different type of geek

I quite like seeing the polls appear after each episode...great idea and it is always good to see as well as read what people thought.

There was a nice little point made in today's Independent, summarised:

"Doctor Who hasn't been out of the headlines since it started, first with it's 10million defeat of Ant and Dec, then the revelations that Christopher Eccleston has left the show. However, this detracts from the main point: that the series is very strong..."

I didnt know ratings for Doctor Who were 10 million more than A&D

I seem to remember DW lost more viewers last week than A&D

Hardly a DW defeat over A&D

Going by ratings the people watching DW is dropping as the story lines get worse

I was summarising. It means that Dr Who's 10 million viewers defeated Ant and Dec's figures. :yawn:

It is not so much the ratings that matter but the audience share for the whole evening that broadcasters take a keen interest in too.

Whilst Who did drop in the ratings (it still beat Ant and Dec) after the first episode it still retained the higher audience share for the evening so it was the most watched programme that night.

As long as the Beeb are happy and the viewers love it and it remains around the 7m+ mark then I am sure it has a long and happy future ahead..once they have sorted out the question of who is playing the lead character!

Of course it will and I hope they do if it keeps its viewers

Just all this DW has defeated A&D etc etc etc is all getting very boring now

People enjoy different things and they are both good programmes

I dont know who started it

But the last 2 weekends this forum gets full of DW posts saying how good it is and how its beating A&D and that A&D is crap etc

We dont need numerous DW posts all discussing basically the same

Should everyone have to like DW, are people not allowed to like A&D without being insulted

(not aiming these comments directly at you, just a general observation)

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but in Doctor Who tonight, Simon Callow plays Charles Dickens.

On BBC 4 tonight at 8:15, Simon Callow also plays Charles Dickens in "They Mystery of Charles Dickens".

I wonder how the characters in two programmes will compare....

Before Who returned RTD said something along the lines of "I bet it goes up against the latest series of Pop Idol or Ant and Dec" and lo and behold it did. Think Press picked up on this, helped along by the publicity machine of both channels and that is what started it off.

Helps generate publicity.

It looks so fake and cheap like it has the same budget of the history plays they do on channel 4 and BBC2 schools programming.

Back to Ant & Dec now.

I forgot it was on .

Thankfully my mum had Ant & Dec on in the background and they started talking about Doctor Who at about 19:10 and reminded me to switch over

I think this week's Dr Who is excellent - shows that Mark Gattis is much better writing this stuff than Russell T Davies

Good good GOOD!
I didn't fancy the 'oldie times' senario when I heard about it, but it worked.

The 3rd week I've felt like giving a round of applause at the end.

I'm still one happy bunny

I missed the first ten minutes, but thanks to Ant & Dec I was reminded (see above post).

It was fantastic. Each week has been great and also an improvement on the week before in my opinion.

I love the way each episode has been so different but yet retained a feel of consistency at the same time.

Couldn't help but be reminded of Raiders of the Lost Ark at some points this week
