All the speculation about whether he's the doctor or not is very interesting but to bring it down to a boring level they wouldn't be marketing Doctor dolls of CE if he was destined to turn out not to be the Doctor.

As far as I can make out:

1. CE signs for one definite series only.

2. The BBC will not commit to a second until they see the reaction from the viewers.

3. RTD takes the worst case scenario: it only lasts for one series. He therefore writes the final episode with the Doctor on the verge of a regeneration.

4. The series is a success and the BBC commits to a second series and a Christmas special.

5. Having been given the go-ahead, RTD now tinkers with the series ending to allow for a definite regeneration in the hope that this will be a big surprise for the viewers, and begins the casting process for a new Doctor.

6. The BBC, in an act of ultimate crassness (IMHO), make news of the second series public far too soon and inadvertantly reveal CE's intention not to continue, thereby spoiling the series' ending.

7. Unless of course...?!

Pretty much sums up what I've been saying all along. Thankyou.

Has anyone noticed that the writing on the Tardis seems to have been scrawled by the same person that wrote "queers" on the side of the car in "Queer as Folk". As the only person that seems AFAIK to have been in both locations RTD might have a little explaining to do.... ;o)

Yes.

And it sounds like a 'fluke' to me!

I thought the leaked episode was exactly the same as the transmitted one (apart from the title music)

They guy who plays Clive is the same bloke in the adverts for some mortgage company (strangely i can't remember which one!) where he insists that everything including pens and pencils are for "Brand new customers only!"

The leaked version I got had Rose's boyfriend in it a lot less - I really couldn't understand where he was coming from and it made him look instantly like a terrible actor. He had very few scenes and his acting looked appalling. The one that went out gave him a few more scenes and he came across a bit better.

Can you remember which extra scenes he had? I'm sure the version I had was exactly the same.

Watched it tonight on BBC3 again - Saturday night are A & D nights when i'm babysitting. Another good episode, definately gets better each week IMO. Couldn't figure out who was playing Dickens till i saw the credits, and realised it was the brilliant Simon Callow

Looking forward to next week's episode...

I was leaning a little towards "The Doctor is not the Doctor" theory as well but I think it might alienate too many viewers, even if it enables the Doctor not to have to use up a regeneration. I know some people suggested that this could be the Master as a future incarnation of the Doctor but we already had the Valeyard as a future incarnation of the Doctor - would be too much of a re-hash.

I'm instead thinking that the season does indeed have a cliff-hanger and that they could have gone either way with it. It's obviously going to involve the Daleks and, I assume, the Time Wars as a result. I'm imagining Gallifrey being saved at the cost of the Doctor's life (which is a nice nod to the novels where the Doctor destroyed Gallifrey). I reckon though they'll try and fudge their way out of using a regeneration when they do the changeover although I can't see how it'll be accomplished yet.

As to the big bad wolf - could it be something like Fenrir/Fenric? After all Fenric was involved in time manipulation and based on Fenrir, the old bad wolf of Norse legend who threatened to destroy the world.

In the version I got, he didn't make a fuss of Rose after she might have been blown up in the department store explosion - he wasn't even in it.

And the scene between the Doctor and Rose walking along the path outside the flats towards the Tardis was a hell of a lot shorter. It still had some explanation going on between the two, but a lot less.

Makes me think there is a hell of a lot of editing going on behind the scenes.

Questions:

1. Has there every been a female Time-lord? Are there such things or is the Doctor A-sexual?

2. How do they procreate? I mean if they only have a certain number of regenerations, they still need(ed) to be "born" in the first place?

3. Is Rose going to be "impregnated" with the first Human/Time-lord offspring to keep the time-lords going?

That should keep the thread going for a few more pages.

1. Yes - the most obvious one being Romana.(asexual means being above sex or not interested).

2. Was not really explained or detailed in the original series.

3. Who knows?.... but this is supposed to be a love story...

There might have been two leaked versions since some people swear there were differences. The version I got was exactly the same (apart from the title music). I was sad enough to watch them side by side (exactly synced) and they were a perfect match.

Bizarre! Both those scenes were as broadcast in the version I, ahem, acquired. SO did you not have the scene of Mickey throwing the arm in the bin either since that followed on from making a fuss about her?

In my version, the Doctor threw the arm in the bin. He and Rose left the flat together.

I haven't seen it myself but I'm told by someone who has that a lot of the editing was tidied up and a little more polished in the episode that was aired and that some of it impinged on the storyliine...not quite sure how...

Time Lords are created in Looms - not jiggery pokery as we do, I seem to remember from the novels.....

Reminds me of an old joke though:

"My mother made me a homosexual" says one lad to another, to which he responds, "if I gave her the wool would she make me one too?" Ha ha

In the version i saw on t'net when rose FIRST entered the tardis
they showed the interior of it and THEN she went back out

On the show on the bbc they showed her going through the doors
and then looking in awe and rushing out again
without showing the tardis interior.

Actually that seems like quite a good description of Romana!
