I have just looked
at the cast for the episodes
and he is in * dalek *
and the following episode *the long game *
but that is all

Also i noticed that simon pegg
plays a character called * the editor *(in the long game)
which got me thinking.......the doctor
the master......the editor ?

i wonder if he is a timelord ?

He's in two episodes. Google shows up references to him as a young scientific genius. So he's an assistant of sorts, but not the 'new' assistant in that sense.

I know, I didn't say he was THE new assistant, as though he replaces Rose.

Yes, it's just temporary for episodes 6 and 7. Which means he turns up in the Episode 6: Dalek, and Episode 7: The Long Game, with Simon Pegg.

Spoiler
He's Rose's new love interest who she picks up in the year 2050.

John Barrowman, in his interview in Attitude mag a couple of months back, said

Spoiler
he is playing the new Dr Who companion

And I don't expect to see the Master returning. We'd have heard about it already!

There was some blah, ages ago, about David Jason playing the Master, but all that was disproved. About the same time as Auton versions of David Beckham and Madonna attacking Downing Street were disproved.

Magnus Greel was also the name of Weng-Chiang, The Doctor's foe in a story called "The Talons Of Weng-Chiang" - from the Tom Baker era.

Episode 7: The Long Game.

"Sinister goings-on at a satellite TV station of the future. With Simon Pegg and Tamsin Grieg."

Sounds a bit like the possiblity of a conspiricy type story.
Government cover up?
We see Aliens disguised as humans in Saturday's episode.
Is the TV station brainwashing the public?

The Long Game.
Possibly referring to all 13 episodes of this series as the Long Game?

Nothing of that type from the "old" days will be returning.

On the subject of Talons of Weng Chiang ... John Bennett (who played Li H'sen Chang) has just died.

1). It could be said that they always have, acting as the 'mouthpiece' of the government.

2). The Long Game - yes, exactly what I though when I saw the episode title.

I think each of these 13 episodes is part of the long game the Doctor is playing. A classic strategy from the books, where a 'long game' would span several full-length novels. (Both Mark Gatiss and RTD have written several).

Spoiler
the Tardis crew will be added to later in the series - I think the 'Jack' character may join
and Bruno Langley will be a recurring character

Can anybody recommend a Doc Who novel or two?

Hello there! I haven't posted on DS for such a long time, but Alrightmate may remember me! Anyway, just wanted to add this little thought to all of your brilliant theories and bits of info. Going back to the 1st episode, at the end where the Doctor comes back for Rose, I thought of 2 ideas.

1) A lot has happened to the Doctor before he comes back, say the time loop theory, or the events mentioned in the series that he's seen, the sinking of the Titanic, JFK's murder and all that. He realises something about Rose or about how important it is to have a companion, so goes back just after the time he's just left her, to really try and convince her to come along with him, whereas the first time he asked was just a polite request.

2) If you're buying into an imposter/Master theory, then the Doctor that came back for her wasn't the real Doctor, he'd tracked the real Doctor and materialised just as the real Doctor left, because he knows something about Rose's importance again, and knew after her encounter with him and the Autons, she'd trust him, or something like that.

Anyway, that's probably all nonsense but I thought it may be a little useful to the discussion, carry on folks, very entertained by the show and this thread!

No it's from the brief synopsis of all the episodes from the Radio Times 16 page Doctor Who pullout.
From the Radio Times dated 26 March - 1 April. The one with a Tardis on the cover.

Hi Whitelady,
Yes I remember you. Good to see you.

1) Yes, I also said that a lot could of happened before we saw The Doctor when I suggested that Chris Eccleston doesn't necessarily have to be the 9th Doctor, and as we didn't see him regenerate from Paul McGann it's still open that he could be a future Doctor. David Tennant could be who Paul McGann regenerates into.
But I'm not saying I'm going with this. It's just an option that's still open. I doubt if it is correct though.
But yes, he could have been running around for years before meeting Rose, so anything could have happened in that time.

2) I also considered this option, that when The Doctor first leaves Rose crestfallen that she couldn't come with him, and when he comes back he might not be the real Doctor.
I just discarded that idea though.
Because I'm coming round to the belief that the Tardis is controlling his actions. Because that option fits in with some of what we have already witnessed thus far.
And I'm not ready to fully embrace the idea that The Doctor is The Master anymore. Not until we have a few clues as to point to that first.

I'm going away from the idea that it's a "Bad" Doctor anymore, as I am leaning more towards the idea that it is a "Bad" Tardis instead.

Good to see you here. hope you stick around.

I agree with you both too.
I think we have to rely more on what we actually see occur on screen, and keep anything external to this series as a secondary option until we get clues to suggest that they are part of this series.

I had hoped to be given a chance to explain my reasoning before having it rejected!

Well, personally speaking, I liked the first four which formed a quartet (The Tymewyrm series) and the Cat's Cradle trilogy which followed was also good.

They show how the Doctor is capable of playing a 'long game' across many worlds and time periods - plenty of insight as to what I think might be going on with today's Doctor.

If you want to know more about how Time Lords reproduced and a possible explanation as to why the Doctor left Gallifrey, along with some explanation of his relationship with Susan, then 'Lungbarrow' is your novel of choice.

Should you desire to see some of RTD's earlier writings concerning the Doctor Who universe (and a cracking story too) then the novel 'Damaged Goods' is for you - this story also features UNIT, and a possible cure for HIV in about ten years from now.

The destruction of Gallifrey is played out in The Ancestor Cell - I believe the Time War and destruction of Gallifrey we will see in this new tv series is a 'rewrite' of those events portrayed in this novel.
