So is Chris returning for the Christmas special or will we have a new Doctor by then as I am rather confused with all the reports of late?
Excellent episode and I love the slow and steady build up of the 'War' story arc.
I'm hooked and so is my 10yr old son who doesn't like the older series' at all.
Incidentally, did anyone notice the blooper during the scene where 'Rose' was talking to the maid about wages and school etc. Just before the Doctor came in, a crew member's arm was in shot on the left side of the screen.

I don't mind how long the storyarc goes on for with the Time War/destruction of Gallifrey as long as we get some answers by the resolution of it.
I always felt by the time the X-Files ended we were no nearer the truth than when it started.

Good point, and I agree.....
we as viewers need to feel we are being be 'let in' as the story(s) go on.
Leaving too many dead ends and red herrings would be a mistake, which I think was proved by x-files

I don't know if he'd need to - certainly, with today's technology, we could have a much better regeneration sequence than the one improvised for Baker/McCoy. (an observation rather than a crisicism).
As I said earlier, this series would have to have been pretty self-contained in case it failed, but left with enough 'loose ends' available in case it did get recommisioned... maybe they already had Chris do a scene where he's lying on the Tardis floor, apparently dead (at the end of episode 13 for example) - all they would need would be some computer imagery and there you go - instant regeneration.

Where do you think RTD is taking us with this storyarc....is it a nod to the book which featured the destruction of Gallifrey or do you reckon he has thrown this in to give the Doctor more of an isolated alien feel and an ongoing story to keep the viewers hooked?
I loved this episode and was gripped from the scary pre-credit teaser right through to the end. The atmosphere was great and Simon Callow brilliant... Really touching moment at the end when Dickens asked how long his books would be remembered for and the Doctor replied "Forever".
The Bad Wolf stuff is getting very intriguing now, as is the Doctor's reaction whenever the Time War gets mentioned. Roll on next week!

Actually I think it's a fusion of all of these ideas.
A nod to the books to keep die-hard fans happy (he's one himself.)
An idea that the Doctor is not only alien, he truly is unique - he's the last of his race.
An ongoing story arc, revealed a little each week to keep viewers hooked. (No multiple-part storylines? How about a "13-parter"? Each self-contained on initial examination, but each contributing to the overall story.)
I honestly believe we will not have the Faction Paradox civil war story featuring in the finale, at least not as it appears in the books - too complicated for the new generation of viewers.
Instead, it will be the Daleks who destroy Gallifrey. We know the series finale features the Daleks - and lots of them. We also know it costs the Doctor his 'life'. RTD has to establish the Daleks as the Doctor's nemesis to a whole new generation of viewers. What better way than have them be the ones who destroyed his planet?
It does seem as if he is hiding something and why would someone paint Bad Wolf on the side of the TARDIS? Hm....

Very true. All these theories and ideas, whether right or wrong, all adds to the excitement and buzz.....

It's when the maid steps back after reading rose's mind and says: "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, my mum always said I had a sight"
Look in the bottom left of the screen. You will only see it if you are watching in widescreen on digital because it is right on the edge of the screen.
I didn't spot it at first, it was by son that noticed it, and thanks to SKY+, I rewound it to see it for myself.

I watched Simon Callow in his one-man show about Charles Dickens, and it was marvellous. So good, in fact, as soon as it finished I went to play.com and bought the DVD.
Simon didn't llok like his Dickens character in Doctor Who, as I expected, but still gave a very convincing performance.

Hmm...
McCoy was a 'dark' Doctor - the 'cosmic manipulator' or chesssplayer. (And criminally undervalued in my opinion - anyone else think so?). Don't forget, he aborted his previous incarnation, Colin Baker (according to the books) in order to prevent himself becoming the Valyard.
If David Tennant takes over (I hope so) I think we will get a much more lively, whimsical, fun-loving Doctor. After all, I'm assuming the Doctor manages to save Gallifrey at the end of episode 13, even if it is at the expense of his current regeneration.

Simon's a great fan of Charles Dickens and only agreed to play the part in DW because it was so true to Dicken's original character. He demanded to see the script before agreeing to take the part.
