I love the phrase 'cheap mummery' - oh the joy of old-fashioned expression!

It needs to be brought back into modern day usage I think.

By the way - something else that was missed. The Doctor states that time is in flux, the timelines in disarray, and our world could disappear at the click of a finger. Suggests that it's not only Gallifrey he has to save, but Earth and the whole timeline.

Well there are 10 episodes left so all things are possible...especially if you are the "big bad wolf"..... ;o)

Cheap mummery, sir!

I think the reference the maid, Gwyneth made to Rose (you've seen the big bad wolf yourself) refers to events that happened to Rose in her own past
Spoiler
she goes in search of her own mum and dad in a future story and tries to change history
.

I think that is the significance of the big bad wolf comment, along with:

I'm hearing rumours that the production team openly admit that CE was only ever going to do one series and they are now coming clean about this because the BBC annoyed CE by implying he was up for two series and pulled out due to typecasting.

..if CE was only ever up for one series that could fit the "bad wolf" thing ....?

Too short.Single episodes are a no-no.Gwyneth the maid was screepy with her second sight and would have been good stretched over two or three eps.Loved it when the Doctor was fooled into letting the spirits free..should have ended there with a cliffhanger. Its all rush rush rush..end!

I have always liked the Dr Who theme tune and the various remixes..but was very slightly 'disappointed' with the new series mix.. since it does away with the "chorus" bit and is very reminiscent of the 1st Dr Who tune.. however, having just listened to the new theme a few times I am really impressed...

It not only fits the title sequence, but has a great build up that i hadn't noticed before...... drums echo the bass line for the first few bars then 'double up'..... the single bass line "dum de dum" sound starts, then, as the TARDIS goes from the blue stream to the red in titles, goes "dum de de dum " it's all very sutble and all very good.... sorry i know off topic and prob not worded very well, but just some thoughts.”

I'm also a fan of the opening sequence. I know the theme tune hasn't been a hit with everyone but I really like it. The new series is great and I get such a buzz watching it. At my age I should know better (especially since I'm getting married in like two weeks) but Billie piper is lush and has totally surprised me with her acting.

I think we were very lucky to get CE for the role - and I thought very early on that he was only ever going to do one series.

I also remember reading that RTD went on record as saying he wanted to do a regeneration sequence a.s.a.p. (to establish this as part of the Doctor's character to the new generation, I presume). People keep forgetting the new generation of fans, but they must be catered for.

I think there was definitely a 'gentlemens agreement' between CE and RTD to do a second series if it was recommisioned. I don't think the top brass at the BBC realised it would be anywhere near as successful as it is. If anyone saw Jonathan Ross interview CE about his new role as DW, handing him the DW doll, and CE's expression before he threw it down on the sofa - he was totally shocked. I think CE himself seriously underestimated the impact of the role. And he also said on Radio 1 that he would never get into the 'fan thing' and do conventions.

It's no big deal - next year, hopefully, we will have David Tennant as the Doctor, and I know, seeing his portrayal as Casanova (the only thing I have ever seen him act in), he will be wonderful!

He'll be along shortly, in a couple of pages past. His Tardis is getting a new dimensional stabiliser fitted as we speak

I've just watched the episode off tape (in the dark again - I'll never learn ) and thought that is was excellent!

I already feel that I'll miss CE as the doctor. Don't know why - perhaps it's to do with him being the first I've seen.

Oh, and something else just struck me - are we not now classed as those sad sci-fi geeks that, as soon as an episode of Dr Who is finished, gets on the 'net ASAP to register their enjoyment/disgust etc (Anyone who watches The Simpsons will know what I mean - Comic Book Guy?)

Oh, Hiya deaddog

I haven't given up on you, I'm just catching up with the thread first.

Like myself, there's a few other novel readers here. Which would you prefer to be the answer to the Time Wars:

1/ The Time Lords/Enemy/Faction Paradox storyline conjured by Lawrence Miles et co.

or

2/ The Daleks - which is what I suspect we'll see.

As fun as the Dalkes are, I'd love to see Faction Paradox and a whole gritty Time War destruction. Plus if Eccleston's Doctor cast no shadow - that'd just rock!

Totally, Amazing, Refreshing, Drama, It's Superb!

I am really, really loving Doctor Who. Tonight's (April 9) episode was a gem. But what more can you expect from Mark Gatiss? It had echoes of the League of Gents Xmas special, (Dr Chinnery in Victorian times), which was an added treat!
Although not written by Russell T. Davies, like the previous two, it was still blindingly engrossing.
In a TV-mad digital age, where there are so many channels and so much crud to slog your way through, I genuinely feel as though my licence fee has been spent wisely!
Although, I would, with ease, agree with some of the previous posters on here, who say that the 45min time limit is a little restrictive. Pity the Doc can't flux himself back in time and chin the BBC commissioner, threatening to ram his sonic screwdriver where the sun don't shine, demanding 90 minute episodes!
Funnily enough, I had a conversation the other day at work, about the series and they said this week's 'Cardiff 1869' story was a two-parter. I argued that they are all stand-alone episodes, but eventually gave in and decided I'd not done my research sufficiently. But, alas, I WAS bloody correct! Time to see your Doctor workmates!
My Lord, I'm being really sychophantic about this series now. But it's justified. Not since the days of Quantum Leap, has there been a TV programme of this genre that I specifically set a mental schedule for. The Doctor Who DVD giftset (DFR Nov 2005) looks excellent... can't wait. Feel like a schoolboy again, but not hiding behind the sofa now! I want to see every bit!

Not sure if there's a rich vein of "what would they have said" to be mined here. I can think of them going back to the exodus of the Israelites and having Moses say "Holy Pharaoh", and perhaps to the crucifixion and hearing JC say "Pontius Pilate Almighty".

Come-on DSers, there must be some others!

Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES! You're right! I missed that due to dodgy BBC subtitling. It came up 'Bad boo' on the screen!

I've just watched it again and this is what the Moxx of Balhoon says to The Face of Boe, who's nodding in agreement...

"Indubitably, this is the Bad Wolf scenario. I find the ? (subtitles say 'inherent', but it didn't sound like that. Inherited? Inhabited? Inhibited?) laxity of the unknowing multiverse..." It then becomes inaudible, but you can still hear the Moxx talking as the Doctor talks to Jabe. Any clues there, anyone, or just empty technobabble?

As to last nights episode, it was the best so far IMO. Can we not have a new poll rating? Instead of excellent, why not...

Fantastic!

Actually, you were both wrong. There ARE two parters, it's just yesterday's wasn't.

I enjoyed last nights episode better than the week before (although for me it seems to get slow for a patch in the middle, this is for all episodes)

I woudnt class it as excelent but it was a very enjoyable episode

The Unquiet Dead ... Simply fanstastic ... Not only was it probably the best episode of Dr Who that has aired for many many many years, it's also the best thing that's graced the Saturday Schedules on BBC1 for many years too.

Loved it .. Hat's off to Mark Gattis for writing such a great story.

Did anyone notice, the Doctor down in the morgue say "Ew, what a Bleak House?" How many heads did that go over?? I love the writing of this series so many great one liners, I wouldn be surprised if it cleans up at next years BAFTAS for writing, acting and production.

Liked the ep. this week, but next weeks looks AMAZING.
