Literally only thing I'm interested in is the Brax exit, not because I like the Braxtons, they
made me turn off but Bonnie Sveen is great IMO |

It looks better than before, esp with all the Braxtons gone apart from Kyle and he doesn't really count, besides he's a decent guy and never wanted to get caught up in the crap Casey etc got into.
But it still doesn't enticed me back, the thought of watching yet another triangle puts me to sleep, the Braxton aftermath will probably go on forever and characters like Evie are so uninteresting. |

Heath wasn't bad (although the character was a bit tiresome) but Brax's actor is pretty wooden IMO and Casey's actor was dreadful! They need to get rid of most of the strays and bring in a new family |

I have no clue how Steve Peacocke won the Logie for best actor. |

The currrent Alf Stewart story line is good - great to see one of the older cast members having more to do. I watch it on 5* and seeing the kids carrying Alf on a stretcher last night really had me choked up, the general atmosphere there really added to it.

I was a big fan of the show but the show isn't that good anymore. It has turned into a teen drama show and I'm not interested in love triangle storylines.

If this is what they'll be focusing on post-Brax, then it's not a very good new era.
The show needs to completely refocus itself. H&A used to be about families (foster families, nuclear families, etc), with a good mix of adults and teens, telling domestic-based storylines and big, dramatic plots, with the added bonus of being able to get away with the more fun, out-there stories. They used to be quite inventive and creative with their storytelling. Who remembers the big natural disasters they used to stage every so often? The earthquake, the mudslide, the flash-flood, the cyclone, the boat disaster, the great storm. Or some of the far-fetched stories: Alf having a brain tumour and being haunted by "evil" Alisa; Stephanie and Liam being the reincarnations of people who died on a plague-carrying ship; Angie's identical cousin Josie arriving played by the same actress; Bobby in the fridge; Sally's imaginary friend turning out to be her real twin brother; the numerous cults, like Saul Bennett and, the Believers. They used to do some really good dramatic plots, like the highly divisive Dani/Kane/Kirsty story; Gypsy being abducted by Robert Perez and the story unfolding entirely in flashbacks; Angie Russell's reign of terror; Chloe's stalker/rapist laying bear traps in the beach house; Sarah Lewis' siege; the Summer Bay Stalker; Sam committing suicide and framing Martha for her "murder"; Ric's illegal fight club; Aden's abuse; Belle's drug addiction; Marilyn's baby dying; etc, etc. This show used to have interesting characters with personalities. Older characters had purpose and weren't used just as a sound board to the younger characters with a tenuous connection. Now the show is all about crime and romance woes with random, boring, personality-void characters at the centre of the show. Where's the innovation and creativity gone? Will Leah ever have story that isn't health related or romantic disasters? Will Irene ever get a story that isn't falling off the wagon for a month, like, involving her bio-kids/ex-foster kids? Has Roo done anything since Harvey left? Is Nate going to be plagued by romance woes and medical drama for the rest of his existence? So much more could be done with this show, but for some reason no-one at H&A can see it. No wonder the UK ratings are recording record lows. ETA: I realize Alf has had an interesting and decent story recently, but one story is not enough to fix the show. Anyhow, it was probably created to appease Ray Meagher after he complained about the show's direction. |

Where are Alf, Irene, Marilyn and Roo in this promo? It's shameful that we only got to see Ada Nicodemou for all of two seconds in this promo. Surely, as someone who has been in the show for over a decade deserves to be featured more prominently and not a bunch of anodyne teens who will be gone and forgotten in about a year? Still, at least she is in the promo.
Home and Away used to be fantastic, but I've not watched for ages and this promo has not tempted me in the slightest. Perhaps if they introduced more family members for older cast members or given them purpose, I might be tempted, but that's looking more and more unlikely. New era? Looks more like a rehash of the old one. |
