It has been revealed in the Queen's birthday honours list that Steven Moffat has been given an OBE for services to drama. Well done Moff!

Well deserved - not just for Doctor Who but for 25+ years of TV writing.

Wow well done Stephen Moffat

Apparently 1100 people were honoured in the Birthday honours. That's a huge amount. The Queen must have honoured everyone in showbiz by now (joking )

As I said in another thread where this was mentioned, I think the queen must secretly be a big doctor who fan as she gave an OBE to RTD while he was show runner and now Moffat.

Not really a secret.

Ok it's the Mirror but I'm sure there have been other mentions. IIRC Charles once said that the whole family would watch the show when he was young.

Cool, thanks for the interesting fact. I joked but I never knew it was actually true.

Makes you wonder if they could get her to make an appearance one day. I know she's very busy but she did the James bond skit for the 2012 Olympics, so you never know. After all doctor who is probably one of the few things that is as equally associated with Britain and British culture as she and her family are.

She appeared in Silver Nemesis, but apparently was disappointed with the end result and has, um, ruled out appearing again. A source claimed.

(It wasn't the real queen in that other classic, Voyage of the Damned. It was Mags the Werewolf. I think.)

Confused myself.

Well played to SM, btw.

ETA Blimey, just googled Jessica Martin aka Mags the Werewolf. Talented woman. And didn't know she was involved with Spitting Image.

Was it really the actual queen in silver nemesis? I'v never seen it so I don't have any idea whether your joking or pulling my leg or not.

I was being silly. It wasn't her.

You're not missing much IMO by the way. Silver Nemesis, like Nightmare in Silver, is not high on my 'must rewatch' list when it comes to Cybermen stories!

That's nice for Steven Moffat, nice recognition for all his work.

They actually asked to use footage of her in Remembrance of the Daleks, which was set in 1963 but aired in 1988. The Palace refused, but did allow footage of Prince Philip to be used.

I am not a big fan of the honours system but it is certainly well deserved on the basis of both writing talent and an astonishing amount of hard work.

The Queen doesn't actually decide who gets an honour. That's done by an honours committee who pass their decisions on to the PM. Her Royal Madge simply performs the onerous task of presenting the award and asking "And what do you do?" I'm not saying she may not be a Doctor Who fan but she has no say in who gets these things!

Oh I didn't know that. And don't remember Prince Phillip footage in it, tbh! Still; Silver Nemesis, Voyage of the Damned and The Idiot's Lantern. Hmmm. The curse of Queenie?

Even some Americans. It's shocking, I know! You just can't call them "Sir" or "Dame".

And of course you've got the Wholore exchange between Her Majesty being introduced to a few members of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop at some music ceremony gathering and her, "Oh yes, Doctor Who!"
