Is Peter Capaldi going through all the previous Doctor's costumes?

I'm starting to wonder. During series 8, it was a basic black jacket, smart trousers and a shirt, often accompanied by a waistcoat. Apart from a few episodes in which he wore the jumper, he was very smart and formal, sort of reflecting the First Doctor's costume.

Then consider what we've seen in filming pictures. Checked trousers, hoodies, T-shirts, crazy hair. This kind of scruffiness seems to reflect the Second Doctor's costume in a very big way.

Now, just recently, we've seen filming pictures of him wearing a dark red jacket, with a shirt and waistcoat. This is simply screaming Third Doctor to me, and although his costume has always reminded me of him a bit, this is much more noticeable. Here is a link for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/wp-cont...lara-rigsy.jpg

We all know how much of a fan Peter Capaldi is. Does anyone reckon this is deliberate? Is he kind of paying homage to all the previous costumes? I might be seeing patterns that don't exist, but if we see the Twelth Doctor donning a scarf or hat at some point in the future, remember that I totally called it!

All I will say is that I would look forward to the day he reaches the Sixth Doctor's costume.

Am absolutely certain Mr C knows what he is doing and has a great deal of input. There was of course the jelly babies, his idea, and an impression of Tom Baker's voice in Mummy...too. I await the references to cricket and celery next series! Although I think he was very much a first four Doctors 'man' when he was at his most rabid fan-wise. Yep, the Pertwee vibe in his clothes and hair is the most obvious. Peter was 12 in 1970.

Moffat has made comments to the effect that this series, and in particular the relationship between the doctor and missy is very much inspired by the 3rd doctor era, so I would think any similarities are more than a co-incidence.

Don't think Pertwee used to wear a hoodie though

There has been slight variations to The Doctor's attire but no hats, where have the hats gone?

That's true. I was wondering if the hoodie and baggy trousers he's had in filming pictures was inspired by Troughton. I know Troughton never wore a hoodie, but he was scruffy like.

If they were truly intent on having him 'go through the costumes' I actually think he could pull off most of them and not look strange at all. The only one's which I think wouldn't suit him would be the Colin baker's (cant imagine them putting any doctor in a mutlicoloured coat without some special reason in this day and age), Sylvester McCoy's(again, knitted jumper, hat and question mark umbrella is very dated) and Christopher Eccleston's (just can't picture Capaldi in a leather jacket).

I clearly have no taste but I actually quite like that! It certainly looks a lot less garish than the original sixth Doctor costume.

I've not seen the sixth doctor photos with the black costume before. Wow! It honestly makes me wonder whether the costume really did ruin the whole thing.

I honestly believe the costume was a big part of it.

Only 1, 4, 5, 7 and 11 were really Hat wearers to any extent.

Capaldi might just stick to the early Doctors
Spoiler
Osgood will take care of the later ones.

Here he is with a longish scarf

To an extent. If the Sixth Doctor's personality was along the lines of, say, the second or eleventh Doctor, it might have worked. His costume would have reflected his childlike madness. But he was supposed to be a dark, ruthless version of the Doctor, at least to begin with. John Nathan Turner did many good things with Doctor Who, but he should have listened to Colin Baker, and given him a much darker costume.

I couldn't picture him in a hoodie and t-shirt until he started wearing it. I could see him in a leather jacket, TBH. It wouldn't necessarily look good, but I can kind of see it.
