Kaiser Chiefs - named after a football team - enough said
Mumford & Sons - sounds like a painter and decorator business
The Pigeon Detectives - What?
The Kills - Sorry, The Killers was taken
Northern Line - Best band name out of all the tube lines I suppose

There was a sixties band called Piccadilly Line, which I think is better.

As for band names that are other tube lines, I don't know of any, but I'm sure there must be/have been some.

Once you're used to it any strange name will seem normal. When we first heard there was a new band called Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark it was a real WTF moment but noone thinks that now.

I really hate it when artists give themselves "hilarious" versions of other, more famous musicians' names, like Joanna Gruesome and Chet Faker did.

I thought they were Our Kestrel Manoeuvres in the Dark at first which does kind of work.
In my defence, I was about ten when they first started out.

Kajagoogoo (and Limahl)
Haircut 100

Anti-Pasti - against pasta! They took it from an Italian restaurant menu: 'ante pasta' as in before pasta (a starter) and punked it up.

Anti-Nowhere League

U.T.F.O. - always sounded a bit corny to me when expanded to Untouchable Force Organization. I think they should have skipped the Organization bit.

Intentional foolishness that I quite like:
Crispy Ambulance
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry
The Happy Flowers (Mister Anus & Mister Horibbly Charred Infant)
Furious Pig

Johnny Hates Jazz - how can anyone hate jazz? A crappy pop band shouldn't even have the right!

The Poison Girls - a band with one female

America, Portishead, Kansas, Boston, Asia, Europe etc. - Put something with it for goodness sake! Be The Ohio Players, Detroit Emeralds, Stockholm Monsters

Jamiroquai
Spice Girls
Inspiral Carpets
Tygers of Pan Tang
Big Audio Dynamite - stupid band, matching name. Painfully hip for a while.
The Buggles
Atomic Kitten
5ive
Girls Aloud
Vomit Visions
Tears For Fears
Fun Boy Three
(not a band but) Puff Daddy (and P Diddy)
Snoop Doggy Dog / Snoop Dog / Snoop Lion

Brit-Funk outfit Central Line were quite popular at the turn of the 70s/80s.

New Fast Automatic Daffodils.(they shortened it to New FADS!)

'We've got a Fuzzbox and we're gonna use it' - shortened to Fuzzbox when they went all poppy.

One of the groups whose music was used in the London 2012 Opening Ceremony was called F Buttons.

Well, I suppose they couldn't use their actual name - F*** Buttons.

As mentioned earlier, familiarity tends to diminish the silliness but Prefab Sprout still jars with me even after all these years.

And their drummer was Jake Le Mesurier, son of John Le Mesurier and Hattie Jacques. One of those deliciously strange, but apparently, true stories about the music business is that the son of Sgt. Wilson off of Dad's Army taught Stewart Copeland of the Police how to play reggae.
