Installing Windows on a Mac
I want to install and run Windows on my IMac using the boot camp facility. This requires me to have a physical DVD with Windows 7 or higher. Any ideas where I can purchase this at a reasonable price, should I wait for Windows 10?
Thanks. |

This was mentioned in another thread. It should meet your needs:

You should be able to get a disc + licence key from eBay in the £25 to £30 region.
Just be aware that it'll be a re-sold licence, probably from a corporate system that's reached end-of-life. |

Thanks Roush and Stig - will pursue.
Noise747 - any particular reason why I shouldn't do it? |

I'm a Mac user and have been for many years now. I would never go back to Windows. Why Mac users like the OP purchase expensive Apple hardware and soil it with Windows via Bootcamp is something I'll never understand.

Well, people do that. I'd say some only buy a mac because they can run Windows on it, too.

the reason why I want to run Windows on the Mac is twofold. First my wife has never really got the hang of the Mac interface and is always complaining about it; the second is that I've had difficulties running Office for Mac, especially Outlook. Following a recent auto software upgrade I couldn't open Outlook, had big problems rebuilding the identity and having done so found that I'd lost all my previous emails, files and folders. Despite many attempts to restore a previous back up from Time Machine I have the same problem and have to start all over again. I just don't have the time. Like my wife I use Windows at work too so it seems to make sense to install Windows via bootcamp. Having said all that I love the IMac ( and my Macbook Air).

No, it doesn't make sense at all. Buy a friggin Windows machine!! You're spending all that money on a Mac because you simply like the look of it but both you and your wife much prefer using Windows because that's what you're both used to and you both even use Windows at work.

The OP already has a Mac.
![]() So just buy a native Windows machine which obviously comes with Windows pre-installed along with many other associated Microsoft programs. Like I said up thread and still stand by it, I'll never understand why people want to start messing about partitioning their hard drive and installing Windows on a Mac machine. You buy Macs for one reason only - because you love the Apple interface which is OS X and the beautiful way in which the Apple eco system seamlessly syncs with it's counterparts like iPhones, iPad, iWatch and Apple TV. The OPs wife does't seem to get along with the Mac interface and is always complaining about it and he himself is having problems with Office for Mac. They both seem to be happy with using Windows at work so I would suggest selling the Mac and purchasing a native Windows machine. |

Apple devices are a typical example of a style over substance anyway. So why blame anybody for buying them because they are pretty?

When I bought my Mac Mini to replace my custom built windows box, I made sure that the first thing I did was to install Windows for my wife to use. These days, I just have a separate Windows PC for her but she's come to appreciate the Mac Mini as it's been running for seven years without any fault, and is currently our desktop box for VoD stuff. Not only that, but it's still very handy for putting together videos using iMovie. So I've been in exactly the same position as you. I have to say, that while I use MS Office on my Mac Book, I opted to stay the hell away from Outlook. There are better options out there for that

That DNA analysis caught my eye. They are doing it with MS Azure now, they can apparently analyse 100 genomes a day, before it was 1 in two weeks.

I don't understand why if you have a TM backup you could not restore everything to how it was previously. With a snapshot taken every hour combined with the reliability of Time Machine what you write has left me totally bemused. I run Office for Mac and have never experienced the issues you describe so I have to wonder if you installed this programme correctly. I suspect it isn't just your wife that hasn't got to grips with the Mac. |

I often have to use both and find Windows 7 far more logical and friendly than the Apple operating system, which is a pain in the orse. I might not feel the same about newer versions of Windows though.
I personally couldn't care less about ease of synchronisation with iPhone, iPad, iWatch (especially) and Apple TV because I never intend to use them. If you have that much money to spend on over-priced gizmos then go ahead. |

I thought the Mac vs. WIN penis measuring died out in the early 2000's. But reading some of these posts, I guess there are still some hold overs out there. Get with the times you grey haired fossils, it's now Snapchat vs. Instagram.
