Ok so DTC started off on his stint on EE in an amazing fashion, he brought the show from a zero to 10 and he was my bloody hero! He was became better than Santer!

I loved the introduction of the Carters
I loved the death of Lucy
I loved the run up to the who killed Lucy

BUT he has produced some utter dam god shit

Since the who killed Lucy the show has been utter pants, the characters are great but the storylines are flat as pancakes and I want giant YORKSHIRE PUDDINGS!

The Dean raped Linda storyline for is one of the WORST mistakes in EE history!

He's killed the Carters, he's murdering the Mitchells, broken up the Brannings and for me some of his crap is as bad if not worse than Birkwoods.

Don't agree with him getting rid of Lola.

What the hell are you doing???????

Ive watched EE since its very first episode SORT IT OUT DTC!

I still think he only planned from when he took over in December 2013 - Feb 2015 (Live Week).

The first few months of 2014, up until June, were amazing. It didn't feel like a soap, it felt hell of a lot better. I do agree with most of your points, & I hope EE picks up again soon.

He could hardly stop Jacqueline Jossa from going on maternity leave and it was Jake Wood's decision to take a break from playing Max. DTC said Jake first discussed it with him when he got the job.

Since live week its been dreadful simple as that. Storylines are dull no real excitement atm. I actually feel were in Newman era just no love and warmth involved.

For goodness sake. We get endless affairs, cancer and pantomine baddies. EE do something groundbreaking, and this is what they get.

I don't agree with most of what you have wrote. I think that since xmas it has been quite good, I enjoy watching.

there are bits that annoy me such as every character having to be related or connected to everyone they interact with, like vincent who they have made an existing relationship with so many of them its not quite believable we hadnt seen or heard him mentioned before.

I didnt like the roxy / charlie affair it was obviously just scraped together because kristian kheiling decided to leave but it is getting interesting now Ronnie is awake and being twisted.

for the most part the stories have been good, i like the twists and turns tho The only thing I would change is I would leave the dead, dead

The show could be a lot worse (like Corrie) BUT keeping Dean on the show is silly for me.

And that's a reason to rejoice is it?

We should just be grateful EastEnders is not in the state Hollyoaks is in?

I agree, since live week its been bad. We need another BIG story line, with a REALISTIC return. (Kathy Beale...) Maybe give a story to Stacey, bring back Zainab?... SOMETHING is needed quickly to get EastEnders back how it was before live week.

It is, but keeping Dean isn't as silly as keeping Callum in Corrie

I completely agree with this.

His first 5/6 months were fantastic, you could see from Christmas 2013 to May 2014, the show was improving massively, and I don't think there was a single episode that bored me... Idk what's happened, but the show has just become so dried up just lately.

I think Corrie is a lot better than EastEnders ATM. It's focused on characters I care about (Gail, Kevin, David, etc... I don't care about Shabnam or Kush), and I think they're putting more effort into their storylines. I do hope EastEnders improves again soon though and starts kicking their ass like they did at the start of the year, as it is my fav.

I actually think that March to June 2015 has been far worse than the Kirkwood/Newman years, and if it's true that DTC has axed Lola then the man is an idiot.

EE could be in a worser state such as Corrie and Hollyoaks are now - the latter I think will be off our screens by 2020 if things don't improve.

I think the issues are:

Too many new characters - In the space of a few months we've had Vincent, then his family, Kush and Carmel and now Paul. We get to know them, then they disappear.
Loss of core characters - Max, Lauren, Kat, Alfie, Peter even Cora.
Storylines either being twisted to become love triangles (Kush/Shabs/Stacey) and (Ronnie/Roxy/Charlie)
Stories being dragged out e.g Linda's rape, Sharon and her Dad, plus Kathy's return
Silly storyines such as Sharon v Kim.
Characters pushed into the background Denise and Patrick (what did happen with the issue that Patrick was being beaten by Denise also what is going with the money situation?, Lola (the exit is a blessing), Whitney.
The DTC pets of Shirley and Dean.

I am sure some of these can be ironed out, but these are the reasons why the show is losing viewers. What a drop from 12m in live week with the Lucy reveal to about 6.5-7m. It's all fair enough the core viewership has been kept, but you need big storylines to become a big hitter. A few modifications here and there, we're laughing. I'm a returnee after leaving due to the end of the Birkwood and Newman era. Yes there is some good episodes and a fantastic cast, but dragging things out and underusing characters is enough to put off even the most die-hard of fans.

Very good post. EastEnders is treading water at the moment - and that surprises me, given Treadwell-Collins' passion for the show. The fact that things have been allowed to slide somewhat after February's anniversary smacks of complacency / taking viewers for granted.
