This looks good. It gets great reviews on IMDB. It's a modern take on the Heroes Of Telemark film.

I'll be watching this, something a bit different (beyond it being Norwegian)

The bit in London as Anne Friel appears out of the shadows was practically a parody, nothing to get too excited about so far but I'll stick with it as the story is a good one.

Channel 4 seemed to be making such a fuss (loads of trailers), thought I'd give it a go, More 4 isn't a bad channel anyway, so watched it not knowing anything about it.
Eventually got round to putting some names/positions to the various faces bunnying away.
Too early for the phrase 'fly under the radar' to have been common, our 'lead' scientist fella could have done with learning it.

Very impressed with this - historically very faithful. I had some Norwegian Army colleagues once whose faces would darken if you mentioned "The Heroes of Telemark". They would be ineffably polite and say "That film is not very accurate". When I left that job, I was given a copy of the autobiography of one of the raiders - which they had had signed and dedicated. Very humbled by that; and the author died about three weeks later...

My only gripe is the presentation of Anna Friel's character, whosoever she is supposed to be. She looks like a pastiche of a pin-up with the excessive make up and the angle of her headgear - and is very improperly dressed for an officer. Sneaky beaky or no, she'd have been drawn up for that. You cannot criticise others for improprieties if you're blatantly performing them yourself. (Yes, I know it's "only telly"...)

Why did the Gestapo immediately execute the crash survivors last week instead of interrogating them first? They knew they were special operations, surely finding out their mission would be the priority?

Danny Boyle was meant to be making a series for Fox called Telemark.

They simply looked at the maps they had, to find out their target, we saw them doing it.
It's quite possible they could have guessed given the remoteness of their location and possible local targets anyway.
It's a fertilizer plant in the middle of nowhere.

Gawd knows when that's going to turn up, I'm not waiting with baited breath anyway.

We watched the first two episodes and found it interesting. It is much better than Odyssey which Anna Friel is also in this week.

But only *after* shooting the crash survivers. Editing error?

There are only two things in the area the Fertilizer plant and the Power plant, the former is there because of the latter.
The place is heavily guarded, the SS are lurking about on security duty, as they said in an earlier episode Nuclear Scientists across the world know what's going on and who's involved in the research.
None of this is secret to those 'in the business'

Now I've had a think and a look at Hydro's website.
The only thing they probably got from the maps, that they couldn't have guessed was the rendezvous point with the other special forces guys who were waiting for them.
I'm guessing that's what was highlighted on the map, so that the viewers knew how they'd located the shack.

It's like finding a load of German Special forces on the Orkneys in the same time period, they've got to be there because of Scapa flow.

In real life they did but for whatever reason the programme chose not to show that.

The problem for me is that the whole series is based on a fallacy, that the Germans were developing a nuclear weapon. This has been repeated so many times now that most people believe it.

Is it a fallacy? And is it a fallacy that the Allies were worried that they Germans *may* be developing a nuclear weapon?

Is it a fallacy?
Yes, the Germans had a nuclear energy program, but not a nuclear weapons program.

The possibility of developing a nuclear weapon was considered by German scientists at the beginning of the war but dismissed as being impractical.

And is it a fallacy that the Allies were worried that they Germans *may* be developing a nuclear weapon?
I don't know but it was a serious failure of Allied intelligence if they were. Heavy water had more practical uses than making nuclear weapons.

Last week was a bit turgid, tonight's episode was better, it's stepped up a gear. More action too. Anna Friel's character still annoys though. For what it's worth - could she be a Double Agent?? I mean she tried to stop one of the Saboteurs from taking the wire-cutters on the mission

Think they only wanted to destroy the 900kilos of heavy water, to blow the whole place was too big a job perhaps?
