I know there are rumours of a disaster coming in Emmerdale. Do people think they cast needs an overhaul and some new faces?. I belive it does. Axe the likes.of Jai, Rachel, Sam, Pete, James, Pearl, etc bring in a few new faces.

Yes, and those are exactly the people who need to go. Can see Kirin or Vanessa being killed off in the Summer possibly

Unfortunately, Chris Bisson (Jai) has just signed a new contract, so it seems we're stuck with him for the foreseeable.

He is becoming very unlikable

Emmerdale has some surplus cast members, many of which mentioned in the OP but it is no way in need of an overhaul. I find it the most watchable soap at the moment, it's incredibly consistent.

In my opinion, it's Coronation Street which needs a SERIOUS overhaul.

I like Jai. He, along with Robert, are my favourite characters.

I find the Internet, especially facebook and digital spy are full of people who like to moan. If you are not happy, don't watch it.

The only character I would get rid of is Rachel, but I can tolerate her for now because Jai is being horrible to her. It serves her right for running off with his kid.

I wouldn't say in unhappy. Just think it needs freshening up a bit. Robert is great. Emmerdale has been consistent for a while

Rakesh, Priya and Brenda can all go. I hope Laurel is axed but that won't happen

I agree with the poster who said that Robert is the best character. At the moment Robert is consistently interesting to watch and unpredictable, I was always calling for his return before it happened

No new faces needed. There are plenty underused 'old' faces - undo the character changes is all that's needed. Bring the real Emmerdale back.
Kate Oates has zero sense of humour, she probably doesn't even have a funny bone in her elbow.
All the new faces that Kate Oates dragged in can go and take Robert and Ross with them. I'd keep John Bowe, but that's about all.
The females she's brought in, with the exception of Katherine Dow Blyton, are horrendous

Rachel is going anyway.

Oo, I totally disagree with this. Sometimes the humour is too broad and it makes me cringe (like that terrible stuff with Finn binning off Darren). But Val, Kerry and Bernice have me in stitches. Even Andy made me laugh the other night. ANDY!!! Some of the writers are really witty.

I'm not sure there's too much point thinking about an overhaul until this big summer disaster thing is a bit clearer. It's obvious several characters are already going, and that's on top of losing Katie, Betty, Alicia, Val, and Ali (if she's gone for good). So yes, they will really need some new faces to replace them, and new stories.

The only ones I think are complete failures at the moment are Tracy and Kirin, so I hope they'll get cleared out, but other than that, happy to wait and see.

I agree, I'm thinking this summer disaster may not get rid of too many characters as has been speculated. Probably just one or two with a couple of injuries.

Emmerdale has been a lot more humurous with Kate Oates in charge and has improved exponentially since the departure of Stuart Blackburn. It still has its problems, such as the multiple affair storylines and the subsequent love stories coming from nowhere but it still remains an entertaining piece of television.

I agree with getting rid of Tracy but Kirin can stay. He's cute and improving when he is not trying to act like a "lad"

The cast, for me, is too unstable right now. It's far from being stale considering all the incomings and outgoings; I can't keep up! I prefer a strong, solid cast with the odd fresh face/axing, but over the past 12 months alone we've had:

Charity and Nicola leave (short term).
We've lost (or are losing) Katie, Declan, Alicia, Betty, Rachel, Val, Sean, Dom and Robbie.
We've had seven new characters join - Emma, Tracy, Lawrence, Chrissie, Lachlan, Kirin and Rakesh.

We've also seen the return of Aaron, Robert and Carly, whilst we've also seen the return and death of Donna.

They also introduced Harriet, Finn, James and Pete in 2013 and haven't done much with them at all. Quite a few characters are underused recently, such as Victoria, Rodney, Pearl, Rhona, Paddy, Edna, Bob, Sandy... Maybe if we stopped seeing the same faces dominate, it wouldn't feel quite so stale to some viewers.

MUCH less than pre those two. And there are NO community events any more.

Well summed up.

Perhaps there are less of these but that is because there is less of a need for a big community event now that everyone gets involved with the majority of the storylines. Under Stuart Blackburn the show revolved around Chas, Debbie and Aaron.

Now, the show is a complete ensemble with many more characters getting the chance to shine, or not in the case of Victoria.

What community events would you like to see? Things like the football match and the fete last summer?

I don't think it needs an overhaul.

I think they should of not made Finn gay as he and victoria work so well together.

I am enjoying no charity, the character really did need a break.

the only new ones I don't like are tracy and nu robert. tho tracy is better with jimmy and and bernice than she ever was with the dingles.

think we will need one or two new characters to cover the losses.

I want to see marlon and laurel back together
when Alicia leaves David and Carly could make an interesting partnership

oh and just read that
Spoiler
Rakesh is staying

Finn works and is very convincing as a young gay man and I am grateful that the show is showing a male/female friendship with no chance of it becoming something else. The only real mistake with Finn is that they have brought Aaron back and introduced Robert. Where Finn was once the only gay in the village, he has been shoved to the sidelines to make way for the pin up gay couple that is so popular in Robron.

Everything else I agree with, though it would kill me to see David with anyone other than Alicia.

It appears somethings might be about to change,

I'd get shot of Sam, Lisa, Tracy & Pete.

Yip. Think there definitely needs to be more events that accurately reflect this type of village.

The B&B is also ideal for some storylines with the people that would pass through it.

We never see much farming esp.Moira's business, although we see you her farm outside it looks a bit dirty to be a food producer.

Perhaps they work well together because he is gay.

bib: Good choices!

I'm glad (of course) that Debbie will be off our screens for a while; I really liked her when she went off to Jersey last time around.

Perhaps she can go go Guernsey this time and bring back another sexy serial killer
