From Popjustice, someone asked if any insiders on there had heard Thunder, this is the only response so far.

Quote:
“All you need to know is-- if this is true, it is not good news. Thunder is not better than FUMF (and I'm not a huge fan of FUMF).

To prove I'm not talking bullshit- the main chorus line is "Well I'm coming back with the thunder." Tonally, very much in line with her recent 'inspiration posts' on social media. It's a slower tempo, but still has that #acoustic sound. It's a shame, because the album has better stuff, if they got away from the tired self-empowerment ballads as singles.”

Not the reply I was hoping for. I was imagining something big, with huge roaring production, you know a 'thunderous' sound. haha.

I was thinking about Leona's sound and how much I preferred the r'n'b sound. It's her music so it's not for me to say but I'd love to hear more r'n'b tracks. Her voice sounds best on that stuff.

On the other hand James loved it and said it had a classic Leona sound - so I assume it'll be more of an earthy/powerful production and vocals.

I'll reserve judgement until I've heard it. Which'll hopefully be in the next couple weeks.

So Thunder is a ballad? Balladona is back?
To be honest I find this endorsement theme a little bit bland and that lyric line in the Popjustice tweet doesn't sound promising but Leona always tends to surprise me so I will wait and see!

Anyone who uses expressions like 'tired self-empowement' should not be taken seriously. And was it Deedee who said that US is more in sympathy with such themes? I do think that's true. The jaded cynicism of British culture is probably a barrier right now for Leona 'getting through'.

Will Trouble 1.0 be any different from the accoustic version of Trouble that we all know and love?
So exciting!
Also, I am super glad that they dont consider I got you or ALS as the 2nd single! Balladona is coming back!

It's very beautiful apparently. Simon fell in love with it. It's the very very very first version. I told them I heard a version of Trouble in a more operatic style but it's not that apparently.

Also regarding Thunder. I said they're "considering" Thunder, so maybe if they shoot I Am and Thunder next week, they can still go for I Am? Either way, I'm gonna wait until I hear it.

When I see this radio tour and compare it to radio tour Leona used to have I have to say I'm impressed.

I'm really excited about this whole campaign. Some of you said you don't listen to FUMF yet. Well I think I've never played a song so frequently since Happy was released. I'm totally in love with it. I HAVE TO dance and sing when I'm listening to the song and it doesn't matter where I am - college, work, travel, street....I just HAVE TO it's so infectious.

And I don't care for chart success that much yes I'd love to see Leona to be #1 with every single song and for 100 weeks in a row but when the song is good for me it's good no matter where it charts. I still think they should push FUMF in US.

Anyway exciting times ahead I hope Leona's healthy and her voice will sound like she's miming miss those comments hahaha

I think they'll let "Fire Under My Feet" slay the clubs with the remixes and push "Thunder". Given the topic of what "Thunder" is about, it could be a really great re-introduction to the US. Leona singing a song about her struggles with her label/in general for many years - in which she was absent on the US scene. Now she's ready to come back to the US. ”

I don't know what they're doing here. I hope it's true that they can release in the US and they'll take notice even if she's performing badly here but it's not often the case that the US will be interested when you've had not even moderate success in the UK. They responded well-ish to One More Sleep. She's lucky Bleeding Love was so massive. I haven't heard Thunder but I'm not looking forward to it (just because I hate ballads). I'm a bit worried that they're doing a Trouble here and panicking because of FUMF so releasing a ballad.

I always thought Leona only got really ill around the end of the year but it seems more to do with whenever she is promoting and has a packed schedule? Her immune system must be non existent.

She can have her Thunder, as long as the vocals are as good as this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA-eLiqZ3wk. None of this earthy stuff. Big smashing beats, trills and runs.

I mean Run, by the way. Better in Time on this one sounds off. I'm pretty sure she's got vocal nodules but she doesn't want the surgery. Her voice sounds like she's singing against some kind of blockage. Particularly when the phrasing is faster.

Her voice wouldn't sound like that if it were nodules but I agree it sounds like her tonsils are swollen or something.

Out of curiosity, what is it that you like about Leona or what interests you because Leona is known as a ballad queen where it's all about the vocals

@LewisCorner (Twitter) also has the sampler album! We can ask him about Thunder/I Am!

Btw, he liked FUMF and ALS! (He didn't tell nothing about the other songs)

I love the big vocals and I'm here for them 100% and I love them on ballads. It's weird because I like the vocals but not always the song. For me I thought Hurt wasn't a great choice but the vocals were great. I tend not to listen to the songs. I tend to just watch the live performances. Whereas with Glassheart, Come Alive and to some extent Shake You Up I actually was quite keen on them. Of course Run was out of this world. I also really liked Homeless and the beat on Fireflies is pretty good. I guess I could actually do with some ballads now that I think about it... It's more the FITS/AMLT ones that I'm really not into. I'm not liking the earthy thing but I'm not sure what everyone else thinks.

Yeah, I get you. Whatever it is, she sounds like she's singing pretty well through it. I think when we mention changes in her voice some people think we're insulting her. It's not her fault. Her technique sounded great after X Factor (it was still slightly sharp on the mix during it) especially 2011 (except for some mad vibrato on Hurt). But something happened after that that I think was related to illness.

See, empowerment stuff doesn't speak to me at all and I do find it somewhat tiresome because I never feel empowered or the need to be empowered. I kind of just do what I do and enjoy it. If things get tough, you keep quiet and sort it out. I always think songs about overcoming adversity can come across a bit whiny and self-congratulatory.

I hope Thunder is not next UK single just because I think it would be silly to have a song pretty much with the same theme as single #2. Then again, if I Am is choice, not sure how ballad will work with radio stations. I am pretty excited about the US plans, though, can't wait!
