I hope the U.S promo starts asap and FUMF gets its rightful place at the top.
No way of bypassing the snobbery she gets in the UK atm.

I am so torn between "I Got You" and "Another Love Song" now. ALS just sounds so HUGE but IGY sounds like a guarenteed radio smash. I think they should go:

FUMF
ALS (early september)
IGY (early December)
I Am (late February)

ALS sounds like a late summer smash and IGY would do amazing during Christmas time I think. Especially with so many big shows to perform the song on (X-Factor, Strictly Come Dancing, Jonathon Ross etc etc). I Am can be the late winter/spring time ballad smash

So excited and it's been just over a week since FUMF has been released and this era still has a long way to go!!

This makes my blood boil. Why do people have it out for Leona? She's the nicest pop star out there...

I'd just ignore it all. Afterall, all that press that she's getting is free promo! We've still got 3 months until the album is out and "Fire Under My Feet" has only just started its chart life.

I can't understand how Fire under my feet has not stormed the charts. It is by far better than most music I hear on the radio. Not once have I saw the music video on TV or heard it on the radio. I am very surprised it has not done better than this I can only blame it on the promo. I just hope there is lots of up and coming promo planned and this gets Leona back on top where she deserves.

The thing is; IF it does end up doing well, either here or in US, it will be so damn embarrassing for those reports

What makes it even more sad for me, is that it's all true.

she went from being a global success to not making the top 50 with a new single :/ It's just soo sad

I really hope FUMF takes off big time in the US just so those reports look so stupid.

Yeah i tell you if it does I'm going to make them regret these articles!

It really hurts to see those things about leona, it seems like she just has a certain stigma attached to her that she just can't shake, no other artists get this, not even the bitches like Marian Carey or Rihanna; so why Leona ?

And it's growing to be quite frustrating that people keep not understanding that she's actually 26 & if the rules were the same as last year she wouldn't have just made the top 40 but also the top 30. Some may say the 26 doesn't matter because it's the 51 that's on the official charts but let's be real, I'm sure a label would rather sales than streams.

I'm honestly sick and tired of the "impact is 2 weeks away" and "Island knows what they're doing" and stuff.

I've tried not expressing my opinion on the situation to not get attacked, but I've had enough.

Island has had plenty of time to get things right and the truth is that they have failed from the start.

The material is on point. I'm not talking about Leona's material or artistry. I'm talking about the promotion aspect of things.

Leona's teams have always tried promoting in the UK first then they move on to Europe and if it fails then they're done. They've never tried promoting in the U.S. first and letting the success take off from here. As Albert Einstein once said, "insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." This is truly insanity. Instead of trying the repeatedly failed method of the UK, just promote in the U.S.

I'm simply expressing my views here. To those posters who want to attack me go ahead, but I'm not about to argue with any of you. I think I have the right to speak my mind on here and I'm not trying to bring the mood down or anything.

Leona should be close to #1 considering the strong material she has created and given the huge amount of time that Island has had to get this right. Instead they f-ed up the release dates. What a huge mess. And only 1 TV performance? Really? What is that? That's not enough. She should be all over the place. Radio and TV.

You ahouldnt get attacked just for saying your views on the matter and tbh I agree this is a big mess at the moment I do hope she can pull it around all this "impact" date is just stupid to me

I bet you feel great now for saying what you think

Just be calm and wait for the initial backlash to pass. Island won't give up on this but I don't expect anything spectacular to happen in the next few weeks. They'll go with things as they planned. The fact is that radios didn't pick it up and that's why this record has suffered a major blow. Island can't make anyone play it if they don't want to.

I am positive that they will throw everything in hands for the next single because the next single sells the album and they want it to sell good. I also think people will actually connect more with IGY for example, it's a superficial song maybe but it screams IT'S SUMMER AND I'M FREEKIN HAPPY.

This flop will hurt it a bit but I do think people WANT to play Leona, they just need a record they believe in. AC nature of this record is as it is and we all started expressing doubts from the very moment it premiered that BBCR1 and Capital will playlist it. Heart situation is a surprise but let's wait for that just a little bit more.

At the end of the day we're getting new music in less than 3 months, isn't that something to look forward to?

Don't think we should worry about this single, the label maybe moved the single forward maybe with of the radio's snubbing it and then release date was messy that affected it the most .
They should promote the 2nd single soon leave FUMF to grow. It might get people more interested in FUMF if they haven't heard that yet after hearing the next 2nd single . Lets keep positive for her 2nd single they are very radio friendly a much bigger hit than FUMF, will make huge impact on the chart whether she releases ALS or IGY next.

But the thing is, the impact date was always June 28th and the single was originally scheduled to be released June 7th. Then they moved it back to coincide with the impact, then moved it back forward. I really don't think it makes much of a difference. If they had released it on the 28th along with the impact date, yeah it may have gone straight to Top 10 but it wouldn't have longevity because there wouldn't be a build up of radio play and performances of FUMF after the 28th. Moving the release to the 7th (like it was originally planned for) means that yes, it was going to have high chances of charting low, but in the next couple of weeks, radio play will increase, which will make sales increase as well as we approach the impact date.

No no trust me, alot of artists get this. Everyone suffer backlash and criticism in the industry, it's how you overcome it that's the important thing. Negative press will be gone by the end of the week and the positive thing is that it'll make the people handling her sit up abit.

Also she's at 51, everyone just needs to take it on the chin, deal with it and accept it. If she manages to go top 5/10 with the next single then it won't look so bad.

I agree with alot of your post so don't worry. Fire Under My Feet is still not on German iTunes which makes me concerned for the EU plans but it's nothing we can control so we'll have to wait & see.

edit: This thread was opened yesterday and already 7,500 people have viewed it. Makes you wonder how many lurkers there are and more importantly, who they are, hmm.

I agree with this

If FUMF really does end up not doing well and not peaking higher than #51 on the OC then it still doesn't mean jack sh*t about Leona's future at all. The thing is, we know that but others don't so it can still be a surprise if 2nd single does well.

Woah that Guardian journalist sounds like a pretentious little prat. It's convenient how he missed out the success of 'One More Sleep' when discussing the Christmas album period. Just selecting only some of the facts that will "strengthen" his opinion.

And this:

Quote:
“It didn’t help when she tried to replicate its success with Happy, the lead single from her second album, Echo. Britney Spears attempted to follow the career-defining Baby One More Time with the lead single from her second album by essentially remaking it in the form of Oops! … I Did It Again. With Spears, however, the pop mimicry was obvious but the new song was just as great as Baby One More Time. Leona’s Happy, however, was just a poor man’s Bleeding Love, a message to the casual, one-album-a-year brigade that they needn’t bother with the new record because it’s more or less the same as the one they’ve already got.”

His musical ignorance is embarrassing. I don't see how he can say 'Happy' is just a clone of 'Bleeding Love' just because they are ballads produced by Ryan Tedder. They stand for completely different messages and have very different melodies. Why don't they write an article on how Syco make and then break their artists' careers rather than attack the actual musicians?

If 'Happy' outsold 'Bleeding Love', people wouldn't refer to it as a poor man's version. People are too influenced by sales these days to form a sensible opinion of songs.

This Guardian article is embarrassing really. That's what happens when you give an amateur to write for a well-respected brand. This guy is something at Popjustice btw, checked his twitter, I wish I didn't, really.
