Long gone the days of fun tasks like the Box & Body Suit Shock tasks ...

BB has now become viscous, brutal & nasty.

Every single task and twists are designed to manufacture conflict & splitting the house up into groups.

BB Producers encourage bullying, back stabbing to the point one day they will go too far. They seem to think this is what the viewing public want, do we ? I sure don't.

OK, you are bound to have the odd arguments within a large group of strangers and personality clashes but why do the Producers need to manufacture nastiness for ratings ?
Do they believe this what brings in the ratings ?

I have watched BB since series 1, I loved BB and always look forward to Summer each year, but now I've had a gut full, it's no longer entertaining for me

I entirely agree.

It is indeed the last desperate roll of the dice for ratings.
Personally I think the show is long past it's best and has been on a slow painful decline for years.

The Tasks in my eyes, are a copy of those from Im a Celebrity, which kinda makes sense, as I think some of the producers who think of the tasks, cover both shows.

But they should be able to seperate them.

They did that only a few weeks ago. But I groan when I see the shock suits now. Been done too many times.

As for your core argument, I do see what you're saying. It has got nastier, although that trend started a long time ago. I still think there are moments that make you smile and laugh and people in there you can root for to win. When the house is full of nasty tossers we know it's gone too far !

This is the first year I don't have a favourite HM, I know who I don't like & some seems ok, but there is no one I would fight for to save or want to win. *shrugs*

I miss seeing the random conversations about mundane things.

I hate that housemates get called dull, when the truth is they are really intriguing characters that just need to be shown more often.

Last night's episode was particularly bad for that.

ALL the clips we saw from the main house seemed to be of them discussing Marc.

Obviously it would have been a hot topic of conversation and with Marc watching on we could expect them to show a lot of this, but we saw virtually NOTHING else.

Made last night's episode even poorer, as if it wasn't poor enough them cutting off abruptly having put them back in.

It's still entertaining...however, the problem is that the show has had to move and evolve along with society and with culture. What was entertaining years ago was BB when it was a social experiment, but today, that wouldn't work. If we have even a week without a twist or an argument, people call the show boring. Any housemate that is relatively "normal" or "nice" just doesn't cut it these days and is deemed boring. If you're not screaming and shouting then you're viewed as dull. In terms of the ratings, I do think that a lot more people are probably watching than you think. There's no way of really knowing how many people ware watching...all we know is how many people watch it live when it airs...but these days there are so many other ways of watching, there are different ways of recording it, there are catch up channels, catch up tv services, you can watch it online. I don't know a single person who watches it live...they all Sky+ it and fast forward the adverts...as do I. Also, ratings are down across the board on every channel because of this. It's much like the music charts...there's so many different platforms and ways to listen to music that it's impossible to find out what is the most popular song of the week...nobody buys music anymore. There's no doubt about it that the quality of BB has declined and the ratings have too, but we have no idea really of how many people are still watching and invested in it.

too many wannabees

Far too much meddling from BB this year. The turning point for me was putting 4 showbiz wannabees with agents in, and kicking out 4 relatively normal HMs. Turning normal BB into CBB after just a couple of weeks was beyond pathetic.

After it stopped being a Social Experiment, why didnt they Axe the Show, saying the Experiment was done.

And relaunch a new Show based People living together, from different societys

I thought that until I notice on the front of the star today, Elanor Hawkins, the girl who went naked on that Mountain, is set to enter into Big Brother Celebrity version i guess.

So you are a Celeb these days for doing something forbidden

Thats nothing new. One year there was a celebrity housemate whose claim to fame was shagging Ronnie Wood which is similar to Helen Wood shagging Rooney but she only made the regular series.

Celebrity house consists of hasbeens and wannabes. Still good though.

it's been dying a slow painful death for years, the only reason it clings to life is because of us addicts still taking the poison desperate for that great high we used to get but never get close anymore

I agree with this thread. I just finished replying about Helen in my thread on here saying the same thing.

They have made 2 big wrong errors in my opinion. The 1st was removing all those house-mates, the originals.. they never got voted out by their other house-mates. 2nd, how they have allowed Helen to come back in and cause trouble.

Big Brother seems so obsessed on psychology of groups and conflicts that they are manufacturing it.

The whole of Big Brother is becoming pointless because avoiding being removed from the house is not a skill anymore. They ruined in when they just removed house mates for no reason.

I don't even like how they seem to have 4 and 5 people up for eviction on recent series, instead of just 1, 2 or 3 house mates.

It's become a money grabbing business.

There is a real intelligence difference between the US BB and the UK BB.

It seems strange now but back in the beginning when Big Brother was still a new idea this forum was accessed by dial up and a computer with a max of 20gb. As more and more people got broadband there was a time when a Big Brother thread on DS would disappear to page 2 in the blink of an eye. People would have Cyber Parties and everything. Time and reality tv has moved on and that has to be expected but C5 who need the BB franchise has killed Big Brother stone dead.

Another agreement here.
Is anybody enjoying this rubbish?
There is no humour, no feelgood factor, just angst and nastiness.
And fake people.
Awful TV.

Well said, much of the show leaves a nasty taste in the mouth. There are no laughs these days.

It was once the best show on TV but as soon it moved to Channel 5 it changed and became once of the worst and continues to decline as Channel 5 have no idea.

I agree with all of this thread, since the C5 move I've been disappointed and watching less each year. I can't seem to get behind any of them anymore as they all seem to be wannabes or trying to make a name through arguing or putting others down. The interference by the producers is also now so blatant that it is sucking the life out of the show

Luckily this year I had a holiday just after the start, so have not watched any for weeks. Only dip in here now and again to see if anything is happening.

I think this years series has finally cured my addition to it, thanks C5
