I find it more odd that the actor didn't notice it!

So Kevin had forgotten he had a son die and his wife committing suicide.
That is terrible. |

I wish he would apologise for his entire tenure as producer.

A blunder of that magnitude should mean the whole scene should be filmed again, edited into the episode and shown again with an apology to the viewers. That type of mistake is scandalous.

As much Michael Le Vell's fault as the writer's, he's the one who's been there a million years and acted it.

Exactly what I was thinking. After playing the part for so many years you'd think he would know Kevin as well as he knows himself!

Not surprised that Michael forgot himself. If I was handed such poor scripts I would just act them out and not care what the words were too.

What the hell does Corrie's full time archivist actually do?

Was Sophie in that scene? She should have remembered she had a half-brother too (although I think she had a different head when Jake was born
)

That whole storyline seems to have been forgot about. Kevin never mentions him.

From what we know about the actors past struggles with drink and drugs it's hardly surprising he remembers barely anything from the good old days!
But how do we know he didn't say something and was told to stick to the script, that most of the public wouldn't even remember? I can understand Le Vell not wanting to rock the boat when he hasn't been back all that long and this is his first major storyline since his return. They need to 'do an EE' pronto and film something over weekend/monday morning to insert into one of Monday's episodes where Kevin says something like "I can't lose another son!". But I doubt they will. |

Emmerdale don't now and it's painfully obvious. |

It's pure shabby. Do they not have senior script editors who would be very familiar with all the storylines.

Even if they don't have a archivist, I would have thought they had a biography for each character.

It's hardly worth doing that. Yes, it's a clumsy slip and I'm not excusing it but how many viewers other than us lot will have even noticed? 5% max?
Yes it was a really bad error which 'analysers' like ourselves who care enough about the show to dissect it on a forum, will all have noticed with horror, but at the end of the day Corrie is a TV programme watched by millions who probably never even noticed!! I am one of the fiercest critics of the show's appalling continuity but there are always going to be mistakes creep through & this one is big enough for Stuart Blackburn himself to acknowledge & apologise for!! Good on him for doing so, and let's hope lessons have been learned & more attention will be paid to each character's backstory from now on!! I don't however feel there is any need for sackings over this, even Blackburn himself!! There are far more obvious reasons than that for him to go!!

Rather amused by this cos in the 10 years + since Jake died, he - and Alison - have never been mentioned as far as I know, so it's been commented a few times that it's like, to Kevin, they never existed.
And of course there was much hoo ha about Kev and Sal celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary in 2006. I commented myself at the time that they seem to have forgotten that they got divorced for some years and Kevin had a new wife and son in the time in between that seemed to have been forgotten! So they hadn't been married for 20 years. Course, Corrie have changed history a few times in recent years so this is only another to add to the list! My favourite is Adam Baldwin, who of course, was aborted when he was in Susan's womb back in 1987! No soap can beat that I don't think! lol |

That really is a terrible mistake but with the amount of continuity blunders, retcons, history rewrites and plain nonsense all the soaps come out with it can't be a surprise to anyone.
