That quote kind of summed up Simon - fairly harmless and well-meaning but also managing to make things all about himself in a very cringeworthy and desperate way.
I do find him very insincere and have just not been able to ever warm to him, so I can sympathize if the housemates can't do the same.
Even though I do think Jack should have a little more patience with him. He doesn't have to like him, but just a little patience will do, as Simon is the sort who will annoy the hell out of you so you might aswell take it in good humour.
