I don't watch Hollyoaks and never have (apart from the odd clip or two) but in light of recent news...
Spoiler

To do such things annually would surely cost them quite a bit of money? The big 3 do stunts too but I wouldn't say they do it quite as often or on such a grand scale as some of the stunts Hollyoaks have done (although I may be wrong with that statement, I don't know). So what kind of budget do you all think they have to warrant these kind of stunts and storylines?

The younger members of the cast are probably on a YTS or the minimum wage and money is obviously not spent on the set, so the money left in the piggy bank can go on the stunts.

Well C4 doesn't have a big drama outlet so might be able to throw them a good budget and they get sponsorship and I would imagine that the actors are not exactly well paid to say EE or Corrie standard.

I remember someone telling me a few years ago that at the height of his career on Hollyoaks Chris Fountain was paid 35 grand a year, which is an absolute pittance compared to some of the overpaid dross over on ITV!

I expected actors on Hollyoaks might get paid less than those on the 3 biggest soaps on the 2 biggest channels because of how big the shows are and how much money the channels can throw at them but 35k for HO? I've seen articles stating some EastEnders actors salaries are in the 100's of thousands which to me sounds like a huge amount of money! I need to be cast sharpish.

It's a shame they don't put the money they use on stunts to better use, like getting in some competent writers, storyliners, producers, bosses etc.

It will certainly be higher than that. In Mikayla Dodds autobiography 'The Fat Girl From Hollyoaks' she stated that when she got offered a regular role on the show she was offered £26,000 for 26 episodes which she turned down stating "I can do office work for the same money and less hours".

I do recall that back around 2007 someone stated the budget was around £90million per year which divided by 260 episodes is around the £350,000 per episode mark but I expect that has changed somewhat by now and generally speaking cast salaries are not part of the episode budget that's dealt with entirely differently.

They save money by the way they shoot because they re-use sets and have actors film generall 4 weeks on, 4 weeks off or something similar depending on how major the character is but they can smash out scenes for up to 30 episodes with that actor during that period.

These stunts cost more money than a normal episode but they really don't cost millions as HO accidents usually just involve a big explosion and then the rest is down to set design.

Its one of the cheapest soaps on tv, it only costs c4 £12 million a year, down from £15 million after c4 made cut-backs.

\Furthermore unlike other soaps who pay their core cast vast sums of between £80k to 240k per year, h'oaks only pays the young cast a flat fee of £30k and their are no big stars!

Apparently we are misinformed on the cast salaries.

My sister who used to be a loan advisor in NatWest took a loan application from Chris Fountain when he was setting up a bar in Leeds, and then drunkenly told a whole group of us that he declared his salary as 35k. She may have got it wrong, or he may have been downplaying his earnings for one reason or another but my sister isn't a liar, she's incredibly unprofessional yes (possibly why she no longer works in a bank!) but she isn't a liar.

Lol. Glad it brought someone some amusement. I'm not sure she'd be as amused if she knew I'd just broadcast her blatant disregard for someone's privacy (as well as her employers code of ethics) all over the internet, but hey ho!

I'm not saying she is a liar but I do know how the contracts work and what the fees are and unless Chris Fountain was declaring earnings for part of a year then that figure is incorrect.

I would imagine that their wage budget is low compared to the other soaps, but then they also have quite the cast turnover, probably the older cast like Tony, Cindy, Darren etc earn more then the average.

Not again. This show should be taken off the air.
