I know I've got the first one hidden away somewhere, but not the second (as far as I remember)

I'd like to play them both before the new one comes along. Predictably prices are rocketing on eBay at the moment.

Sega still hold the rights to the first 2 games. They are moving away from console gaming, but I wonder if they'll be tempted to do a remaster in the next couple of years?

I sold my original xbox with my copy of Shenmue 2 with 40 other games for ten pounds (I'm the biggest idiot ever) a couple of months ago, slightly regret it now as I fancy replaying them now.

Still got my Dreamcast with the first game though.

I've got my Dreamcast with both Shenmue 1 & 2, I've also got an original Xbox with Shenmue 2.
What I loved about Shenmue 2 was once you'd unlocked them you could go back and play AfterBurner, OutRun, Space Harrier & Super Hang-On as and when you wanted.

I hope Sega do the right thing and re-release the first two games. I'm sick and tired of eBay chancers trying it on at crazy prices. Lets get them out at a decent price for a wider audience.

newcomers would probably struggle to get through the first 2 games as they are very dated now and they are also long games to play through, even as a big fan of the first 2 games myself i think i would find them difficult to play through again. they definitely need remakes with upgraded graphics, animations, improved voice acting and better loading times to make them more playable. its difficult to see the appeal of shenmue 3 to gamers who haven't played the first 2 games as you just won't get it unless you have played and loved the first 2 games, so i think it would of been better to remake the first 2 games first so newcomers can play them. however as a big fan of shenmue i am delighted we are getting the third installment at last.

The target is 10million on ks.

Suzuki stating the 5mil milestone will enable him to introduce a new character perspective aspect to the game.

For a true shenmue experience 10million is required for a true open world experience.

I have a feeling Sony have offered to double possibly treble what the kickstarter raises.

So a 10million target sounds about right. If Sony were to give suzuki double, then with his "other" sources I'd say the budget would be around the 35million mark.

As it stands even if Sony were to treble the ks fund he'd have around 15mil...

Sooo please try and share this info etc, get more pledges to meet that target.

Only have one opportunity at this to get the best game possible.

14years in the waiting for this news. Surely the Shenmue fans on here can help spread the word to get more pledges.

More tiers between 500 and 3000 are coming aswell.

With the way games have moved on since the first two games came out open world is where the game should be aiming for. If it does not achieve this I just feel the game world will feel shallow and small.

My thoughts entirely.

We would still get a great shenmue 3, (suzuki on board almost guarantees it), but be thinking what if...in regard to the budget, and games potential that wasn't fully met etc.

I could easily play them again, they are my favourite games of all time.

You could have sold Shenmue 2 alone for about £40. I was watching a copy of the game on Ebay the other day and it went for £52.

Currently there's a Dreamcast copy of Shen 2 at £89.00 with 16 bids and about an hour left to go.
There's also another with 14 bids, 6 days to go and it's currently sitting at £64.97.

Loving that new music in the first link. Thanks for sharing.

I remember well Christmas in Dobuita. I was actually playing it over Christmas in 2001 I think.

Bit strange that this is going to be a PlayStation exclusive considering it's never been on a Sony platform before.

I just hope sony have acquired all the rights because I can hardly remember the story from the first 2 games; I gave the first game to someone and have a disc missing for the second so no chance of playing through again on a dreamcast.

Too tight to pay 50 odd quid for them on ebay as well.

Did the rights not revert to Suzuki San? If so they could have a recap, like Yakuza 3 does.

What do you think of the chances they'll do a HD 1 and 2 remaster then, pretty much a given?

I would say slim. It would take a lot of work I imagine. Especially the first one, emulated versions maybe.

I don't see how that is strange at all really. There has only been 2 games in the series.

10 Million is overly ambitious, its slowed right down now and probably will only get to around 5 million at its current rate- While great for the gamers that want to play the sequel, I can't see this being anything other than a major flop, its massively, massively niche in the middle of a story that began back on the dreamcast- Obviously I loved the first one (the second not so much) so I'd really like it to work, but that might be why Sony appear reluctant to fully fund the game, I seem to remember the first two struggled to recoup their respective budgets didn't they?

You're right, 10 million is a bit too ambitious, it won't make that much. This is how things on Kickstarter go though. Usually they make loads in the first few days and then everything goes very slowly until the last few days. The last day especially raises a lot of money.
