Looks like the new Now box is coming soon and still pretty cheap, but I expect it will be locked down like the old now box.

The new box is based on the Roku 3 which sells for £99, so at £14.99 it's incredible value despite being locked down to block Netflix and other apps Sky don't want you to have.

As speculated it will include 1080p streaming and will be out in August in 2015.

Where does it say in that article or Sky's press release that it will include 1080p streaming? All I saw was one line that speculated it.

I hope they do improve the streaming quality as that is the one area Now TV is let down compared to Netflix.

Given its based on a Roku 3 I expect the answer will be yes.

There is no information on if and when the streams will be upgraded to 1080i/p.

1080 streams or the fact the box is capable of 1080 isn't even mentioned in the press release https://corporate.sky.com/media-cent...g-summer-plans.

It's (short term) future proofing.

Will watching football on the sports pass still be as jerky as it is on the old box. I think it is the only thing that spoils Now tv.

Yes it will still output at 60hz.

I think they need to sort out using hd live tv streams before putting out new boxes, they only use them on Apple TV which is daft

The Judder may not be your box that is the trouble, but a setting on your TV. I also used to experience jerky movement, but using the trick here solved my problem

I have a NowTV box and don't see any juddering with the live streams, so give it a go.

The Now TV/Roku boxes output at 60hz (US standard) rather than 50hz, which causes judder. It seems to be one of those things that not everyone notices, though. If you mainly use it to watch movies/US TV shows you won't notice anything wrong.

The XBox One suffered from the same problem and got a lot of press attention at the time: http://www.theguardian.com/technolog...uk-tv-watchers

Year, I'm watching my Now TV box right now, and I can't find the slightest hint of judder.

I used to, but making the recommended changes to my TV settings fixed that.

If there is 60Hz judder, I certainly don't see it - no matter how hard I look.

It is mainly noticeable on sports on now tv. The ticker bar on sky sports news shows it up the most. I have an LG tv and don't have a clue what settings to adjust

I've never tried this with an LG TV, but give it a go and let us know if it helps at all. Try going to Picture Mode in the Settings, where you may find options such as Vivid, Standard etc, and select Game mode.

Not everyone notices it, but it has been quite frequently discussed on the Roku/NowTV forums and also affects Chromecast and other devices of American origin. Live sport is particularly affected, but on movies and US TV shows it isn't noticeable.

The device is operating at 60Hz but the content is only 50Hz, so there are 10Hz missing every second which cause the judder.

It'x explained quite well at http://www.tvforum.co.uk/mediatech/now-tv-40391/page-4

Tried the game picture mode. No noticeable difference. Would the picture have no stutter on apple tv?

It shouldn't stutter with the Apple TV box, if there are problems go to the video output settings and have a play around, the Apple TV has a pretty comprehensive choice of output options (including a choice of 50 or 60hz)

NowTV Sports.

Apple TV: 3870 kbps average over a 30min test

Now TV: 3705 kbps average over a 30min test

(Now TV was tested this morning with the Ashes)

Seems Now TV Sports streams are in HD these days.

Yeap, there is no real difference in the amount of data sent to either boxes, which is a 720p HD stream.

The slight differences are more likely the result of normal traffic fluctuations. The Apple TV is set to 1080p 50z.

Neither has any noticeable judder. (Oh, if Game Mode didn't help, try also changing the HDMI port. Not all ports are the same, and then try Game Mode on the different port - I know from experience that HDMI1 on Samsungs are usually the best for digital STBs, perhaps it is the same with LG)

In all honesty, the video from the Apple TV stream appears better to my eyes, but the TV itself is much better, so that is most likely the cause.

Finally, if you are considering buying an Apple TV, I'd hold out for a little bit. The Apple TV is due for a major update and some people think it will happen soon. When it does, it is likely to have a lot more features such as 3rd party apps.

Tried moving HDMI ports and picture modes but the slight judder is still there. Think I am going to invest in apple tv.
