I still don't understand this 'wife' business?

I've just watched a video on the BB site of Helen and Harry chatting and Harry again said about her 'wife' so Helen asked if it was sexual and Harry said no we're just joined at the hip.

Isn't that just a best friend then? I don't understand why she refers to her as her 'wife'. It's confusing and unnecessary IMO.

As an aside I found Helen extremely patronising, telling Harry how best to behave in the house. Jeez she needs a few lessons herself.

Yes ,she is her best friend and she calls her her wife, it is not really confusing, but it is a little odd.

I have the impression that they live together as well. A very close female friend whom she lives with, who may as well be her wife but it isn't a sexual relationship.

it's quite simple, instead of calling her friend her friend she calls her her wife, which she obviously isn't as they are not married but just friends

So why doesn't she just say that? what's with all the ambiguity?....annoying

I think she says it to be deliberately confusing. She know it's going to imply lesbianism, especially in the BB house. So when she says it's not a lesbian thing why doesn't she just say she's my best friend. And if she is just her best friend why does she have a say in who she has as a boyfriend/girlfriend.

Is it just too 'normal' to say I have a best friend.

I think she's under the heavily deluded belief that people will find it intriguing

Sam also said she had a wife.

Usually when she does it she does so in a casual manner suggesting that this is just what she is in the habit of calling her and she isnt just trying to be different .But it is still strange, unless it is a common thing among young women to refer to particularly close female friends in this manner, as Sam"s use of the same term suggests could be the case.

I think Sam said it once and laughed. I've even said it about my best friend from time to time. The thing is nowadays it is perfectly possible for 2 women to be wives and 2 men to be husbands so it causes confusion. And Harry says it in such a serious way and only ever refers to her in this way. I've noticed the other HMs have been confused about it a few times.

Yes I think that's the reason behind it too!

She has said so many things, that all contradict each other....Like she is bi-sexual & she is allowed to have a boyfriend in the house but not a girlfriend cos her "wife" wouldn`t like it...So now it seems her wife is just her bessie mate & they are not in a sexual relationship, so why would she care if Harry found a GF in the house?

Must be not cool anymore to just have a partner, what with Jade and her Pollydoodahs, Harry with her wife not wife & I have no clue what Sam is either, don`t they realise how stoopid it makes them sound?? FFS just say "I am single/unattached" or "I am in a relationship/have a partner" instead of making such a mystery novel out if it.

Whats with Chloe....She just has a boyfriend...Weido!!

On the first night, she said she shared a house with her sister, who she calls her 'wife'. Does anyone else remember this?

It seemed completely honest, I think it was the little snippet of live feed we get at the end of the live eviction.

It seemed very odd to me because the conversation was about romantic partners rather than friends, so I thought it implied a marriage rather than a friendship.
If the conversation was about good friends and Harry said "oh yes I have a wife" nobody would think twice and just accept that she has a best friend.

Is it just me that wishes people would invent new words rather than change the meaning of the ones we have got?

It was a week ago or something she said to Nick
She has a wife who has a boyfriend. But Harry won't go for Nick because she's not allowed.

clearly harry doesn't want to reveal everyhitng about her private life and it's her right, i wish people minded their own business and left her alone she doesn't owe an explanation to anyone

Because her job involves her appearing to be single?

She has every right to not talk about her private life but I don't see the point of riddles and intrigue. I am also surprised that someone so discreet was chosen for a public job where revealing yourself is part of the process?

its very common here in canada to refer to the person in control of the house and its runnings..the Wife.

could be man, woman who cares? Does it refer to marriage or a sexual relationship? NO !

I'm old enough to remember the person in charge of the house, laundry, shopping, cleaning and cooking called 'my slave'. or 'houseboy' 'my maid'

nowadays its in style to call this person a wife.

personally i feel its a dumbing down of what a wife (marriage) is...but thats another argument LOL
