Just seen the last 2 episodes of season 2, does anyone know if there will be a season 3?

A very good series, it had the right mix of everything, from comedy to pathos. A lot of mostly characters you could both love and hate. (still not sure about Bea).

And it delved in to some good questions about what it is to be human.

They just had to do the old 'Human who is like a robot, so why not robots who are like humans?' bit, with the Captain Pike character.

Having seen the trailer for the next episode of 'Humans UK'. I am disappointed they've merged the Niska and Flash characters together.

The character of Flash is so much more interesting in her search for love, especially in series 2 when she gets a husband and baby. But I doubt that will happen now the UK character has Niska's violent streak in her.

Surely Karen (the colleague of DS Drummond) will turn out to be the equivalent of Bea? The strange bob haircut / wig makes her look a bit … artificial? I agree they need a Bea character as it won't be possible to bring it to the same conclusion without her.

I wonder if they've given some of Roger's plotlines to DS Drummond, since it's his wife who is the equivalent of Roger's wife? Maybe they decided to cut out Roger's workplace, which admittedly only contributes to the “making humans irrelevant” aspect of the story. I can't see the “Real Humans” terrorist plot working with DS Drummond, though, so maybe they have got rid of that? (Shame because Mark Addy would have been perfect as Roger)

Watching the first three episodes for a second time just after bingeing on the first series of the original it's striking how much of it so far is elaboration of the main family's situation with new elements not in the original: an odd decision given that they've got to condense the whole thing to about two thirds of the original running time. For instance the photo Laura hides of herself and Tom, presumably another child who is now dead? Where did that come from, and where's it going? The car accident that makes Laura more well disposed to Anita? The whole thing about Anita taking Sophie out at night, which I suspect we're never going to get a proper explanation of?

Have they invented Hobb to do all the exposition about the modified synths? He's also been given one to experiment on (the one called Fred in the original is not caught) which looks like what happens to Leo much later on in the original. It worked better to show more backstory for the “gang of five” (reduced from the original eight) right from the start. I assume we're not going to get the church with the priest and her wife, since there seems to be no equivalent of Gordon (the synth who gets religion as a result of reading the Bible three times).

However good Rebecca Front is, her Swedish counterpart wipes the floor with her: Mrs Doubtfire crossed with Tubbs from TLOG.

Another brilliant performance in the original is Rick the hubot personal trainer of Roger's wife, yet strangely his equivalent in Humans (Simon) has hardly featured at all so far.

Some very good points. Yes DS Drummond does seem to be the Rodger character, mainly due to the wife situation so far.

And now having seen the Swedish version I can see how people can believe his partner is the Bea type character. Although it is a shame they've made the hair like it is as Bea was very lifelike in comparison.

Rick was great especially towards the end of season 2. 'We all hate Rodger'.

They seem to have merged at least 4 of the characters.

There doesn't seem to be a Kevin character, nor the human liberation front.

You are so right about the Swedish version of Vera. She was great especially at the lazer zone.

Having watched the Swedish version, I can only agree that it is vastly superior to the Anglo American version that's airing on CH4.

I just can't watch that one anymore. The cuts to the story and the merging of characters doesn't do it any favours at all, and the hubots (yes they're hubots NOT synths) aren't as good or realistic either.

The original is simply the BEST. Better story, better characters and doesn't suffer from being made 'safe' for a conservative American audience either.

Doesn't seem like it, budget problems from what I can gather, shame as would be very interesting to see which direction it would have headed.

It's a shame a UK company can't help with the budget for the UK rights to the whole series.

As people note further on they seem to have badly transposed him into part of DS Drummonds character and for no good reason as far as I can see so far


Presumably Kudos believed they could do a better version of it that would play better to English audiences.........a tad arrogant perhaps........If I ever find anyone that prefers the Kudos version to the original I'll give them a free lobotomy (though if they do they've probably already had one )


And actually likeable....the whole programme had a cohesion sorely missing in the UK 'version'

Yeah..I thought Season Two lost it's way a bit but it could have gone in many directions. If the sales for the second series were as high as for the first then I can't understand how there could be such nervousness about budgets

All in all the more I see of the UK version the less kind I can feel towards it..so far it just seems a semi coherent mess.

It seems that everyone who has seen the original thinks that too. It's a shame as it could have been done so much better.

As for Season 3, well I hope there can be one eventually, just to tie up the loose ends and finish the story in a more satisfactory manner.

The only things I've 'liked' so far about the UK version is where it appears to have moved well away from the original rather than jumble what was already there. Giving the girl some very sassy one liners worked well IMHO as did the bash a synth interlude in this weeks episode.


I'd have thought given it's sales figures that there shouldn't really have been the budget fears that are rumoured. I certainly hope there's a third series.

I posted in the Humans thread and another poster kindly reminded me of this thread. I've only read synopses of RH. Humans has a much narrower scope from what I can gather, focussing mainly on the familial impact of hubots rather than the wider societal stuff.

I'd been looking forward to the marketplace bombing, Niska on the rampage, Battle Hub, Flash's storyline. But the character merges and plot changes means they are not going to happen.

The loss of running time due to ads should've been foreseen, Humans feels rushed.

Humans is definitely a paler version of Real Humans. I don't feel it does the original justice.

The only think I would like to have had from Humans in Real Humans is Gemma Chan as Mia rather than the other actress.

Ugh, I bet they declaw Niska and have her pursue a family like Flash. Thinking about it, they've set the groundwork already.

I doubt that will happen in the last episode of this series. They might do it if it gets a 2nd series.

But the UK Niska doesn't have the charm of the Swedish Flash. IMO.

I'd love to say that the UK 'version' finally acquitted itself well and stood it's ground proving all the naysayers wrong but unfortunately that programme was never made.........................

I'd be interested to see what people who saw the UK version first think about the Swedish version.

People often prefer the first version they have seen to the next version (even if the first version was the second version).

But I honestly feel the Swedish version was way better.

I hope some bother to post. I think they will possibly find it as difficult to watch as I did the English version having already got a set idea of the characters that will conflict with what they are seeing.
For me the original was very well thought out and very coherent whereas the English version seemed just a mess.......I'd like to hope that after watching the original those coming from the UK version could still see and value that coherence. Hopefully they'd ponder on just why Kudos made the changes they did because I'm not sure even they knew why they had...............

I think the coherence of the original shines through.

I also think that most people might be a bit disappointed by the Grandpa character who might seem a bit too comedic compared to the William Hurt character. But Grandpa and Odi were much better in the end.

Yeah I really Liked Lennart in the original and thought he worked well. Making him far more acerbic and involved in the synth history didn't really seem a good move to me but if that is how you have been introduced to him it will really throw you to see a bumbling affable character I'm sure
