why do pop stars think they can limit who does what. Does every broadcaster get permission for every song that they use in every show?

For such a specific use? You bet!
"The PRS points" system used in broadcasting wouldn't apply.

Otherwise they'd be claiming royalties for their use.

I agree with Neil Young, why should Trump get away with using one of his songs without permission. I also think that Young is annoyed that he does not acknowledge the meaning of the song when using it for his campaign.

It's interesting that the Republicans find it hard to get rock artists to endorse them, might it be something to do with their politics?
