Florence + The Machine - Favourite Album

So with the news she is to headline Glasto and having had time to absorb HBHBHB I was just wondering your favourite album from her and why? Here are mine ranked.

Ceremonials- When I first heard it I was slightly disappointed and off put. Seemingly just a reimaging of Lungs with all the best bits stitched together to form a more coherent album that could appeal to the masses. But overtime it really has revealed itself as something special. It's gloriously huge and the water theme running through suits so well to it's tales of loss, redemption and healing and it helps the album hits like one big wave. And each time I Listen the more special it becomes and more it reveals itself.

How Big How Blue How Beautiful- I really loved this from the off. I love that it's more anchored in realism and there is an earthier element to it. The guitar has replaced the harps, bells and whistles and it's the better for it in places. There is more room for her lyrics and voice which in fact sounds so much better here. Downside there are moments where it is just too subtle and quiet those elements work on Various Saints and Storms but then not on Long and Lost. It's not as coeherent as Ceremonials other and dips up and down to much without being interesting with it.

Lungs- Simply put it just hasn't held up nor dated. I loved it for over two years but now it's just a bit mish mashy someone trying to find their voice and identity which of course its what a debut should be. there are real gems Cosmic Love, Between Two Lungs, Drumming song. But it's a bit all over the place not quite indie not quite baroque a hodge podge fairy tale that is at once interesting but a bit bland in places. But a steller debut I still enjoy.

So what is everyone else's favourite.

Lungs
One of my all time fav albums, as well as one of my fav debut albums and also one of the best albums I have ever heard from a british female.

When they first appeared a few years ago I thought they were brilliant but her voice is so depressing I can't listen any more. Really disappointed they got the top slot. Just don't think they are a top of the bill act for Glastonbury.

Maybe I over listened but for me it just doesn't hold up as well as it did I still adore it but Ceremonials is my go to.

I like all three in their own way but I know Lungs inside out. I think another reason I love it is because I was a fan of Florence about 18 months/2 years before she even released anything and i heard and watched her develop the album over a period of time through live performances, demo's and songs that never made the album. I watched it go from an egg to a baby essentially.

Nothing beats her debut - Lungs, for me.

I know every lyric to every song on that album, it's simply amazing.

Lungs. It's the most instant. Ceremonials is brilliant but it took a lot of time for me to "get" it. Meanwhile, How Big... has some amazing individual tracks but I feel it's her least cohesive album as a whole and seems like it's deliberately geared towards being a bit "coffee table" music. I wish it had been more experimental.

Lungs - an incredible album. It has great sentimental value to it with a great original sound. I absolutely love it and loved this era when Florence first came out. My favourites always change - I love Rabbit Heart, Drumming, Cosmic Love, Howl and I absolutely love the live versions of Between Two Lungs

Ceremonials - I loved this too, I didn't think it was as good as Lungs but that's because I thought it was a dark album. Where as Lungs was fun and light. It was still amazing though and really certified Florence as a real artist. My favourite song from this album is No Light No Light.

How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful - This album is a beautiful masterpiece. Definitely deserved of its #1 in the UK and USA. My favourite track is Third Eye, but as a whole I love the entire album. Each track is strong.

And for those saying Florence doesn't deserve the Glastonbury headline slot, I think you need to get a grip. Not only have all Florence's albums reached #1 at the top of the charts, but she was voted the best act of Coachella and has made a mark on the music industry.

All the people saying 'I would get a refund' are clearly at the wrong festival, Glastonbury is that big there's always something else to do or someone else to watch. If you don't like Florence, go watch someone else. I feel a lot of people are just moaning to moan and jump on the bandwagon.

I look forward to seeing Florence at Glastonbury and I can't wait for her to smash it and show all the critics exactly why she was chosen.

Same for me the wait for the album seemed eternal . But whilst I love the sort of Schizo nature of the album as she developed further Lungs just became for me a mish mash of ideas not fully realised. Unlike Ceremonials or HBHBHB which have clear identities. For me Ceremonials is her most fully realised as is cohesive, almost conceptual, and hones the essence of the band. And never did I think on release would I praise Ceremonials so much .
