Is Jessie J a flop?
I understand Bang Bang was a hit but other than that her follow up singles and album have hardly lit up the charts.
I was just wondering whether you would consider her a flop. |

I'm not sure if I would regard her as a flop but I would say she is vastly overhyped and overexposed. None of her albums have been particularly brilliant. Even her early singles weren't that good. Do It Like A Dude was an autotuned mess and when I heard Price Tag I thought she sounded like Natasha Bedingfield with slightly different music. She was hailed as the second coming of pop music when she first came out but she didn't release anything particularly original or groundbreaking. All her songs sound rather generic.

Her fall has been rapid when you look at her sales. Who You Are (2011) - 1.2 million Alive (2013) - 100,000 Sweet Talker (2014) - 60,000 The actual sales may be higher but I've gone off her certifications and it looks awful. She's in flop territory. |

I've really struggled to warm to Jessie J and I don't quite know why. |

I agree with everything in this post.
I've really struggled to warm to Jessie J and I don't quite know why. I didn't really mind her before that really. |

One single reason for me. 'The Voice'. Never have I hated someone with such passion before. I genuinely found her unbearable.
I didn't really mind her before that really. That one tv show has done a lot of damage to her, She came across so badly |

It was her singing along to all the songs on the voice pissed me off. Her critique was usually "I thought your licks was well clesn"

Lots of reasons
1) She has been shoved down our throats as 'original' since day 1 - that's not how it works. 'Original' only works when people think they've found something unique themselves. 2) That awful hairstyle she had at first and those awful body-suits 3) Her first, second, and third albums all sound kind of similar or like more of the same 4)The Voice. I imagine she was nervous with all the big stars around her but she overcompensated bigtime. Almost like people around her were telling her she was as big as Tom Jones 5) In conjunction with not really having a recognizable 'sound' of her own on any of her albums - her 'sound' is just generic songs sung in her voice - not really having a 'look' to go with any of her albums. So it all blends into one similar blur 6) I don't know how likeable she is. Someone like Adele for example is just as loud and brassy but she manages to make it funny. Jessie J... she doesn't seem to connect as well. Also I haven't seen her on a talk show or getting interviewed in an age, and you struggle in pop without publicity |

in my opinion she was a nice girl when she first came out and her first album except for casualty of love & L.O.V.E was a good album it sold well.
In my opinion she started changing around the voice she also started saying how the music she puts out isn't always what she would buy. well if you don't believe in your own music how can you expect other to buy it. her second album only had a few good songs she also angered the gay/lesbian community by stating her sexuality was phase despite being open on alan carr. G.A.Y and in many magazine interviews people forget a large number of lesbian/bi women would have contributed to making that debut album a success. then unfollowing her fans on twitter she just comes across as very attention seeking. and unlikable that's why no-one is buying her music let the USA have her. |

I've always regarded Jessie J as one of the most inconsistent female singers.
I hated Do It Like A Dude, but I really liked Price Tag. The only other songs I've liked are Domino and Thunder, even though the latter bombed. Jessie's vocals are an acquired taste, that's for sure.

Hold up. She has a third album out? I had no idea. Some of her blame surely must go on management...

Its already been said. but it's true - people have gone off of Jessie since and because of The Voice
She came across AWFUL like she was stuck up and thought she was the next major thing, even though at that point she had released 1 album. Personally I really like her music and Alive - in my opinion - was a great album. Was never a fan of Who you Are.... But also, I don't know if everyone else knows this, but she wrote barely any of her last album (Sweet Talker) - so basically she has turned into a lazy sell out bighead - which never goes down well with the public! |

If it goes for anything, and it probably doesn't, I'm not long back from a trip to the States and she was on TV what felt like every five minutes. I kept saying out loud "why on Earth is she so big over here?". There was a promotion on Good Morning America for some concert thing she was doing and there was Jessie J milking it for all it's worth. It really narked me.

I'm all for artists showing passion in their voice, but for Jessie J it really is a case of scream every song.

Once the hype around her debut album subsided, most people realised just how bland and generic her music is.

Jessie has had two top ten hits in the states some minor sucsess but hardly a big star same as cher Lloyd both are so desperate to make it over there they will do anything.
I personally think both would have made it by now if they were going to be big stars. though at least cher Lloyd is more likable and has apologised for past mistakes. Jessie isn't a nice person anymore I'm sure a lot of people won't care soon about her career I think she's convinced she's going to be a big star in the states. hasn't happened yet you never know if she's desperate enough. |

The reason is her appearance on the voice. I was a fan of her music and really liked her, and then she became probably the worst TV judge of all time, it lost her so many fans..

Totally overexposed and completely overpushed. She seemed to me to be someone who was foisted upon us by record execs desperate for a British Rihanna/Katy Perry etc. Her playing such a prominent spot in the Olympic Closing Ceremony was ridiculous. She only had one album out at that point and she was all over the show like she was a world superstar. There's only so long that this sort of hype can last (especially when her singing is so horrendous) before people just get tired of her, especially when the material is no good either.
As you may have guessed, I hate her. |
