Is Eminem the best rapper ever?
And if not, who is better? I've been listening to a lot of Eminem's earlier material (My Name Is, Real Slim Shady, Stan, Without Me and Lose Yourself) and I can't think of any better rap songs than those
Eminem has never been afraid to be controversial and ground breaking and that's why he stands out |

He's the only one I can make sense of and he does tell a good story bless him.

He's definitely the most accessible to a white, mainstream audience and he is extremely talented but I would say that Nas, Tupac, Kendrick Lamar, Rakim and B.I.G are better than him.

If nothing else, Eminem is an incredible lyricist.

Best white rapper, though I think the likes of Tupac and B.I.G are arguably better.

I absolutely hate rap as a genre, but, I think he's made some incredible music, so, yep bravo him, the lads got talent.

Imo he has the best catalogue as a whole it would've been interesting to see how B.I.G & Tupac's careers panned out.

What other white rappers do you think he's better than?
So you "absolutely hate rap" but think he's made some "incredible music"? How? He's a rapper. Is the Real Slim Shady banned from most radio stations because it's lyrics are too rude? I never hear it on the radio |

He's probably up there with the best, certainly. Lyrically, he does things you wouldn't think possible, and he is very good at injecting his dark sense of humour into his songs. Who else could make songs about murder, rape, child sex abuse, domestic violence etc etc and for them to be humorous? I say he's a very talented guy, and when he's on form, he's genius.

I think Em is a great rapper, he's got skills but he's no where near my favourite. Neither are BIG and Pac and anyone who says so i'm willing to bet they wasn't even around when they were making music and is just regurgitating what they have heard other people say. Both artists have been over elevated because they were murdered at the height of their popularity. 2pac was a massive jerk, it was only when he got killed that people started gushing over him.
P.S- Anyone who calls it 'rap music' is not a real fan of the genre. |

He used to be. I don't think his lyrics are anywhere near as good as they used to be. His songs used to be more about telling a story, where as these days. the lyrics mean naff all and are an attempt to have hit after hit. Jay Z is the same as well.
Nas is an excellent rapper. His lyrics are very thought provoking. |

Maybe this post is acknowledging Eminem's talents as a lyricist

Also the 'white rapper' thing: I'm sure many who site Eminem as the best white rapper don't know any other white rappers apart from a few who appear in the pop charts. |

Eminem = rap music for people who don't like rap music.
for someone who is technically talented as a rapper he makes terrible music. soul less, tone deaf cheesy music for bully victims. good for them if it helps them etc but keep his music is not for me or anybody that enjoys good music. a picture of your typical Eminem fan; https://heavyeditorial.files.wordpre...y=65&strip=all "i don't like rap music but i love Eminem" |

I'd say Eminem is one of the best technical rappers. when he's on form, his lyrics and delivery are excellent, but he's got quality control issues lately. He's definitely got "the skills to pay the bills" as they'd say back in the day. Whether he's the best rapper is of course debatable though, and a purely subjective question. He's in my top ten, alongside KRS-One, Chuck D, B Real, Busta Rhymes and Rakim. I'm an old school hip hop head though, stopped paying too much attention to rap when it went all gangster, though there are a few exceptions during this time, like Cypress Hill who had a different take on that, and kept the party music spirit I liked from when it all started. Eminem did spark my interest in rap again though, and probably got a lot of new peope interested in the genre so that's to his credit. Not that that makes him the best, of course, but whenever you see interviews with rappers they all give him respect. The documentary by Ice T, Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap clearly shows that he's respected by his peers.
