Fantastic song released by a talented British woman who can both rap and sing.. and it's only no.42 on itunes.

It's not like it hasn't been promoted either, she was on the national lottery last night, where she gave a great performance and sung live... She's also a lovely person with positive energy. What does she have to do to release a successful song? She's also released some great songs in the past, but the only hits she's had are "The Boy Does Nothing" and "Breathe Slow"...

It's a bit rubbish, nice little hook but after two minutes it was repetitive and annoying. Sorry.

Fair enough, but then again that can adequately describe most songs in the top 20. Maybe people just prefer her as a rapper rather than singer? Maybe it didn't get enough radio play? not sure...

Isn't 42 good for the first day it's out? Gives it chance to rise closer to Sunday for a better charting.

honestly i wish Mis-teeq would just reform , Alesha is not going to have a successful solo career.

Lipstick and The Boy Does Nothing were great lead singles. This is more like an album track or b-side. It's nice enough, but not very memorable or catchy. I was hoping it would do well though, as I love all three of her previous albums and really want to hear the new one.

Don't see what's wrong with the song. It has a good message rather than the standard relationship/love drama or ones about sex. It's very catchy, you can dance to it. It's not a masterpiece, but just an easy feel good song.

iTunes chart is live so it's reflective of how popular it is right now, which should be higher on release rather than later in the week.

I think it's just a bit dated. Sounds like something that would have been in the charts five years ago.

Alesha has just posted this on Twitter about 'The Way We Are':

"I decided to make the track available outside of the official charts as I really want the album to be appreciated as a whole, and not defined by a series of single chart positions".

If a track has a normal iTunes release, then how exactly do you keep it 'outside of the official charts'?

Well, I'm sure it'll make a fantastic Pointless answer on "Top 75 singles by BGT judges".

The song is so forgettable it's ridiculous. It's like a blend of so many generic 90s dance songs, resulting in there being nothing about it to make it stand out in any way.

Maybe it's Alesha's way of justifying the inevitable poor chart performance the song will get this week - there's no two ways about it.

Shame though because I really like Alesha, but she was more unique as the female rapper in Mis-Teeq. There sure weren't any other female rappers around at the time that sounded like Alesha.

The Way We Are would sound better if it had been produced by someone else - or even just given a beefier dance beat to make more better for the clubs. As it is, the backing track sounds a bit cheap for me, and it cheapens the song because of it.

Is it just me also who finds it strange how Alesha became so popular as a Strictly winner, yet seemed to start losing her popularity once she became a SCD judge.

Not really

She was a great contestant but a lot of people hated her as a judge. So no surprise her popularity went down.

Well Leona's latest single peaked at #21 on iTunes (might've sneaked into the top 20 for a couple of hours?) and that ended up charting at #51 in the UK chart.

So Alesha is still looking likely to miss the top 40 come Sunday. Lack of streaming (yes, the "S" word is here again ) will hinder its chart success. I think at this point the only way Alesha could guarantee a place inside the UK top 40 is if the single climbs into the top 15 on iTunes.

If it peaks around #25 and goes into freefall from tomorrow, this will be another song that fails to make the top 40 (but makes the sales only top 40).

OT; No doubt Thinking Out Loud will get its 53rd consecutive week inside the top 40 though. Why would the public want a brand new song in the top 40 when they can just have a song that's been in the chart for a year instead.

Stagnant. Blame streaming!!! (and I think Thinking Out Loud is a brilliant song but even I think it's had its time in the chart now)
