Infinity or Broadband

I am buying a house soon and deciding on broadband deals

I mainly use internet for Browsing/Apple music probably/movies and not gaming

Broadband tested at 9Mb @ 7.50

Infinity @ 12.50

Not sure whether to pay more for the guarantee of 38MB for what I need it for?

9mb will be a bit rubbish for streaming movies, go for infinity

I recently switched to BT infinity 1 from a 10mb ADSL service, the difference even in web browsing is noticeable, even more so if connected by Ethernet cable.

I got upgraded to infinity about 4 months ago and must say pretty underwhelmed with it was expecting to see a huge improvement and to be honest when the contract is up will probably go back to the far cheaper broadband
just general browsing the internet appears to be no quicker loading than bog standard broadband

doing the speed test shows it is faster but in normal usage of browsing hard to see any difference

9Mbits is 1.1MBs/s. How would that be crap for streaming movies?

It isn't. I had no problem streaming HD movies on my old 8 Mbps ADSL connection. I did switch to Infinity 1 but the increase in speed was the least of the reasons I did so.

I do lots video stream & uploading & BT Infinity 1 has really made a difference for me as it no longer takes 4 hours to upload one hole video and now done in less than 4 mins.
and even 2 gig uploads with in 35 mins which would take a hole day before.

Rubbish, Netflix recommends 5mb for HD.

its not rubbish if you have 1 pc or tv with netflix
but if you have a pc a tv a smart box and an xbox all wanting to share the whole of a 9meg connection it would be wholly rubbish and 39 meg between them all is a lot better
for £3 i would go fttc

The price quoted for Infinity sounds like its the very basic package which only gives you a 20GB monthly limit.

If streaming movies, this won't take long to use up and you'll wish you paid the extra and got 'Unlimited'.

Double check the small print before signing up to anything

Those prices are from BT site via cable.co.uk

The infinity is unlimited, if restricted it would be 7.50 too

I think i am leaning towards infinity,

If you are going to stream films then I would definitely recommend the unlimited. The infinity 1 package would probably give all you need speed wise.

9mb is an ok speed and far better than the speed I was getting when I was on normal ADSL with BT for in my case when I had normal ADSL over 10 years ago I was lucky if I got speeds of near 4mb.
9mb in some cases maybe ok for some but with much more that the internet is now used for the faster the speed the better. If its offered to you.
Infinity is far better and good for watching anything in HD from the likes of the BBCi player or Netflix.
Infinity is also great for using apps such as TuneIn radio.
I also now and again download songs and some songs can download in less then 30 seconds with Infinity.
Depending what you going to be using it for I would go with Infinity unlimited and maybe Infinity 2 that should give you speeds of well over 60mb depending on your area.
I also in the last 19 months have BT TV as well so I need the extra speed that Infinity 2 gives. Plus I use Netflix at times as well.

Yep! Watching a lot of online videos will eat up the bandwidth. The higher the picture quality of the video, the more data that will be downloaded.

But remember if you subscribe to BT TV then any streaming done that way does not count.
