Kacey Musgraves is releasing her new album 'Pageant Material' tomorrow. As a fan of her previous album 'Same Trailer Different Park' I have been looking forward to this one for a while, especially since hearing the lead single!

Video for the lead single 'Biscuits' is here.

I did find 'Same Trailer Different Park' a little hit and miss with some songs lacking the 'vocal edge' I think they really needed. Still, on the whole I love it, with special mention going to It It What It Is which was the song which introduced me to her. And it won Country Album of the Year at the 2014 Grammys so perhaps I'm in the minority of finding it hit and miss!

In any case, reviews of 'Pageant Material' seem pretty positive so far! Not sure if there's much of an audience for country music on here, but thought I'd post this for anyone interested.

I found her debut album hit and miss as well. It was the type of album that was average at best but it felt more like a teaser, and the best will follow shortly.

Oh cool, thank you - I don't often look in the Appreciation Threads so completely missed this!

Yeah that is sort of the impression I got. I was actually surprised it won the Grammy, because as fond as I am of it, I didn't think it was the best country album of that year! I do think Pageant Material will be a stronger album, though perhaps getting too ahead of myself with thinking that because I've only heard two songs off it!

My copy has just arrived. Won't have time to listen to it until I finish work, but I'm already looking forward to the journey home.

I actually loved STDP (it was definitely my album of 2013), but even if people thought it was a little bit filler, you can't deny it was very good for a debut studio album.
I would like to get my hands on her independent albums at some point as well.

Not to rain on the parade but I'm surprised people are praising her. Biscuits is one of the worst songs I've heard in ages.

I thought STDP was absolutely brilliant and that Dandelion was the only weak track. So far I'm finding Pageant Material to be a better collection than most of the other recent country releases but I think there's less punch to it than there was to her debut.

That said, her lyrics are delightful as always and the musical arrangements seem much more grand on this one.

Time will tell how it stands up to its predecessor I guess.

I loved every track on STDP and it is one of my favourite albums. PM is just as good but lacking some spark in some tracks. "Fine" is one of my favourites and a lot of the songs remind me of what I imagine an American school dance in the summer would be, they have a sort of hazy feel to them.

I'm a little annoyed with the company that I've preordered from. I've ordered from WOWHD thinking that it would be sent out as soon as the album was released but it's now saying "backorder" next to my item.

I'd understand if something had been out for a while but it's new out, they would have got the album in a couple of days ago.

I don't know how long it's going to take to arrive.

I much prefer Pageant Material to Same Trailer Different Park. I think my favourite track is High Time, but the whole album is strong. I'm going to give STDP another listen now because I feel I've been a bit harsh on it (not that I've been majorly criticising it at all) and I haven't listened to the whole album in a while.

I think she has grown and progressed with every release, the first couple of albums arent really the voice she has now, then you come to STDP and you see her as an artist and the strength in her songwriting, for me, a flawless album. With Pageant Material she gets better and better. Very enjoyable album.

Why didn't you just pre-order from Amazon, I've never had an issue with them when I pre-order anything, got mine yesterday!

Well don't be getting the impression that you are all alone here because you are not. I don't see what is so special about her either. The only thing that I can appreciate about her is the fact that her music is labeled "traditional country", but oh my goodness, she sounds boring and according to what I've read about her at another forum that I go to, her live performance will put you to sleep.

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. And what she chooses to stand for in her music has only made her even more of a turn off, to me, encouraging people to do whatever they want no matter if it is right or wrong doesn't do a person any favors.

She stands for "live and let live". That's not bad or "wrong".

Some things aren't "chosen" by the person.

^^^ Since when did encouraging some one to roll up a joint and smoke it become the right thing to do?

God bless you always!!!

P.S. And how can a person mind their own biscuits when other people's biscuits get dumped on our plates whether we want their biscuits to be there or not?

I'm having a listen now. It's a new country album with traditional country leanings. I like it, it's some good authentic country music.

I don't think she's quite big enough to be playing the Royal Albert Hall yet! Surprising venue choice there.

I've never been to the royal Albert hall before but her London show at shepherds bush was packed last year when I saw her. She's had a lot of support from radio 2 so maybe she'll fill it. You never know

Kacey Musgraves is one of my favourite artists and it's great to see her do so well in the UK considering how unpopular country is here.

I agree with the poster that said High Time is their favourite but it's another strong album and I'll probably have another favourite after a few more listens! It's also great to hear her sing with Willie Nelson.

I don't think you've understood the message she's trying to put across.

Surely if you find her music boring you shouldn't expect to not find her boring live? From the videos I've seen of her live she sounds exactly the same live as in the studio so I'm sure people that like her music wouldn't be disappointed at all.

What she stands for in her music is one of the reasons I really like her music. Even she has said that she's not for everyone.

She has just announced 6 uk and ireland dates for november.
It's a shame she's not coming to anywhere near Wales but I'm hoping I'll get tickets.
