HDR Fox T2 lost all schedule - turn off updates?
Apprentice 2 SA

My HDR Fox T2 must have done some automated update yesterday. as I've now got channels I didn't before. Wonderful service you think - no, because it wiped my schedued programs.

Now I've long known an update will do this, which is why I don't update my channels every time Freeview does its latest channel add.

So now it updates itself. Brilliantly annoying. And if I'd been on a fortnight's holiday?

Anyway, I looked but I couldn't see: can I turn off automatic updates?

The auto-retune will not occur if you are away on holiday and have no reminders, no auto-power on and leave it to record in standby.

The additional 3rd party customer software does have an option to disable the auto-tune pop-up that defaults to 'retune' if you are not around or not watching.

Although I use the custom software I do not use that option. That is the reason that I know from previous auto-retunes events that when I am away and have no reminders, no auto-power on and leave it to record in standby that it does not auto-retune even while recording from stand-by.

Thanks, unfortunately, despite the HDR Fox T2 being, IMO, the best PVR available, it has 2 major faults. The first is the retuning problem, which could be solved by leaving it as you say... but ... the second fault is that when it's on standby it buggers up the signal to other PVRs. I've tried splitting the signal before the Hummy but it still buggers it up.

So I can't put it in standby for holidays.

That used to be true but is not correct for the latest versions of the software; found out the hard way.

Go to the Settings Menu -> System -> Power Management

Turn off Power Saving in Standby.

When on it disables the aerial passthrough when the Fox-T2 is in standby. Though it shouldn't affect the aerial signal if you split it prior to the Fox-T2.

Thanks for the thought. Power Saving in Standby is already turned off. Also, as I said, when I originally set up the box and noticed this issue my solution was to split the signal before the Hummy, but this failed.

There should be absolutely no reason why a properly functioning Humax would affect the aerial signal to other devices if the feed to those devices is split off before hitting the Humax. Unless you have a really really crap splitter or the Humax is buggered.

The only other explanation is that the Humax is powering an amplifier somewhere else in the chain. The Humax can poke 5V out of the aerial socket for this purpose. If that turns off in stand by that would explain the problem.

You can easily test for this by going into the Installation menu (need to enter a passcode) then Antenna Power. If it is ON turn it OFF and see if that affects any other device (including the Humax itself of course).

Thanks for the thought, but no, Antenna Power is turned OFF .

My schedule got wiped too.

I suppose I should be grateful that it doesn't happen very often and that I can usually get hold of the missed recordings some way or other.

I had a weird problem with my HDR Fox T2 tonight though. I was recording two other programmes and had to watch Humans on timeshift instead of the normal series record. The picture started to break up from the very beginning until about a third of the way through when the screen went blank and the message 'channel scrambled' appeared. Anyone else had that happen before?

Yeah, I had the retune, lost schedule, was on holiday, very annoying.
Fortunately, I also have the schedule on an old PVR9200T in another room which recorded them.
Belts and braces!

My Fox T-2 lost George Ezra (Glastonbury) BBC3 HD and the late repeat repeat of Victoria Corren's How to be a bohemian on BBC4 HD. Both recording said channel scrambled and would not play. Fortunately I use a 9200 as a backup and it was OK. Other recordings have also been OK. I have given it a power recycle just in case.
