Heartbreak / break up songs?
What songs got you through a hard or emotional break up to try and heal your heartbreak?
I remember when my first boyfriend dumped me when I was about 13 in the summer of 2003, I had Daniel Bedingfield's 'If You're Not the One' on loop for the whole summer

When a friend of mine broke up with his long term girlfriend, his friends serenaded him in front of a pub with Neil Diamond's "Love On The Rocks". I'm not sure it healed any heartbreak, though it did make him laugh so it probably helped a little.

Mariah Carey's H.A.T.E.U. got me through a pretty bad heartbreak. Somehow, it really soothed me when I listened to it.

The Eagles "New Kid in Town," always amused me.
You need to take a positive attitude in that situation. "I'll never forget you, 'til somebody new comes along." |

I've never been broken up with before but when I heard this song I felt like crying.

"Break-Up" songs have been written for over a hundred years.
The C&W industry is built around them. |

That's good, but then there's the female singers, who take a more positive attitude to a breakup.

Last time I looked, Reba was female... and slightly gorgeous with it.. but the positive attitude collapses a tad at the end of that song...
I wasn't suggesting for a moment that she wasn't female. I was actually differentiating between the "female carpet" type songs and those about women not willing to take it lying down. I wasn't attempting to make it a gender issue. |

My most hurtful time for being dumped was when I was between 15-18 and was in my metal phase, so Limp Bizkit's Boiler was probably the one that I listened to the most. Definitely helped
![]() GracieL - Aw that DB song always reminds me of when I reconnected with a boy at school I really fancied and he didn't have a mobile at the time. That song just came out and I had written my number on some paper and was waiting for my mobile to ring. It rang whilst that song was being played...
