I've been on a bit of an explore with music featuring the might Hammond B-3 - Jimmy Smith has been a wonderful discovery.

The Joey DeFrancesco Trio has been added to the "to listen" list.

Got to know him from the album After The Rain with John McLaughlin and Elvin Jones. I recommend it, (if you like that sort of thing).

Yes, Jimmy smith is the "legend" as far as the Hammond B3.

Like many instruments, manufacturers try to "better" them. In the case of electric organs, there's a lot of potential for improvements, but the received opinion is generally, that they haven't improved on the B3.

It's a bit like saxophones, the early Selmer MkVl, is considered to be the "Holy Grail" amongst them. Selmer were unable to improve on despite making various models, after it ceased production in 1974.
