Hard to believe but on the 5th July Nancy will have been in Hollyoaks for ten years. She's having a quite low key presence on the show at the minute but hopefully with the show's twentieth year coinciding with her appearing on the show for ten year's we'll see Nancy at the forefront of the show again and with much better writing.

Can't STAND Nancy, she is possibly the most self righteous, judgemental and arrogant character ever to have appeared on HO.

The actress is also dire IMO. The longer she's low key the better in my book!

I agree, the less of her the better ... especially now that she's leaving a trail of Roscoes in her wake

She was my favourite character for absolutely years probably from about 2008 to 2013 but ever since the end of the original Sienna story she's been unbearable.

I mean she's always had a dubious love life what with sleeping with Justin after he effectively got her sister killed then marrying her dead sisters husband then having a three way relationship.

But she absolutely took the biscuit when she had an affair with her husbands half brothers Dad, led her husbands eighteen year old half brother along and then went out with her now ex-husbands other half brother after he "killed" aforementioned step-dad and broke other aforementioned half brothers heart.

I much preferred Nancy circa 2010 when she became friends with Cheryl, Mitzeee, Texas and India and lightened up a bit.

The writing for her since BK returned has been abysmal but Jessica Fox still remains one of the show's best actresses

This is the only time I could bear Nancy, she was actually ok when married to Darren and playing the jolly housewife and sidekick to Mitzee. Since then she is horrendous!

I absolutely loved that Nancy! That was when she got together with Darren as well. Good times.

I also loved her back when she was a bit of a rebel, going out with Foz.

I don't watch now, because I *hated* what they were doing with her (and everyone else on HO) from about 2013 onwards. It's a shame. But she was great once.

I completely agree! I only started watching in 2010 but she was my firm favourite until she was ruined with the Sienna stuff. And now she's easily one of the worst characters, although she's still one of their best actresses I'd argue. That's what's really frustrating, they've wasted such a great actress by ruining her character.

I think HO have ruined a lot of characters and Nancy is at the top of my list. I hated her reaction to JP telling everyone about Finn and she's become really unlikeable.

Well he's ruined so many characters, relationships, friendships. About to do it again to, with one of the oldest friendships on the show, Ste & Tony.

Wow ten years already, I remember when she first arrived I hope we see a lot more of her she's a great character. She deserves more than to be just a bit part in the Roscoe's storylines.

Unfortunately yes. I feel as though she plays Nancy with a constant air of superiority. Even when Nancy is trying to be nice or emotional she comes across a snotty cow.

IMO the show has some great actors who are badly written.

Alex Fletcher as Diane is a fantastic performer but her character is beyond reprehension and actually rather detestable.

Anna Passey is a decent actress (not great but good) and once again her character is one dimensional and the writing for her is all over the place. The actress is not being given the material she needs to develop.

Stephanie Waring has given us some emotional and very well delivered performances in her time on the show, but at the moment is being used as a joke character. She's better than that.

Amanda Clapham is coming up through the ranks, and IMO is the best of the younger actors. She has a very natural delivery and IS Holly despite being the 4th or 5th actress to play her.

I feel sorry for Jessica Fox. One of the (few) solid and capable actresses still in the programme and they totally drove Nancy into the ground with the usual plot driven stories, ruining her and making her unlikeable in the process. She deserves so much better.

I do agree that Nancy is definitely one of the most ruined characters under BK. She used to be such a fun & lively character, now shes just a judgmental & inferior character.

Alex Fletcher is an amazing actress but Diane is ruined beyond repair. Trying to take Rose away from Tegan, really?! And where's Ant & Dee Dee? She seems to have forgotten about them trying to find 'her' daughter. I'm glad Porsche pushed her out the window, shame Sinead didnt go with her. Anna Passey is also a really good actress, I think she would be well suited to an Emmerdale role myself rather than Hollyoaks. Stephanie Waring is also very good, I've disliked the book writing story but Cindys feud with Simone has been great & funny, but it was nice to see Cindy stick up for her in last nights E4 epsidoe.

Most of the actors/actresses Hollyoaks have are really good, it's just the writing that lets them down.

BIB: I agree 100%, I've been saying for ages that it's a shame Passey is so high profile as Sienna because I would LOVE to see her cast as Rebecca White in ED. She'd be a fantastic fit IMO.

I disagree 100% (sorry). She may have been an OK actress when she came into HO, but they soon forget, and just start doing that weird posturing stuff that passes for acting on that show now. I don't want her anywhere near ED.

Definitely agree about Anna's acting, and as I said earlier in the thread, I find that her acting now is best described as 'good' yet she was a breath of fresh air when she first arrived. She's definitely going through the motions, which doesn't surprise me give the drivel she's given as storylines.

I do like Anna Passey, and I find that she plays the upper middle class Daddy's girl very well. I guess I would hope that a role in ED would stretch her acting capabilities.

I think all the actors are - how can you find your character motivation when the storylines don't make any sense and everyone is behaving out of character?

Sienna the character was decent when she began but Anna had a habit of making every sentence inflected (as if every line was a question) and that used to drive me bonkers.

I think Alex Fletcher is a good actress, I was impressed with her performance during the Finn storyline and Stephanie Waring is ok. I've never thought highly of the other two you've mentioned.

I think we will have to agree to disagree about Jessica Fox. I think she has a great range and is convincing in every scene she's in, both serious and lighthearted. She was amazing in the aftermath of Becca's death, Nancy's miscarriage, Oscars premature birth and the subsequent painkiller addiction/ Sienna storyline. She even makes makes me like and care about the character when she is given crappy storylines as well.

I thought she was good in other roles pre Hollyoaks too.

I'd really like to see a storyline that somehow brings Sienna and Nancy back together but not as enemies. Obviously not as friends but I think a lot could be done there.

As for Amanda Clapham being Holly I totally agree. Wallis just never felt real in that role but I totally buy Amanda in it.

I have found that "women" as a whole seem to be the problem on HO at the minute. One thing I'll give Emma Smithwick is that she really built on female friendships and relationships and made the majority of the women very likeable and loveable and strong. Now I think perhaps Esther, Celine and Porsche might be the only female characters I'd ever feel any sympathy for in any situation. They're either joke characters or out and out bitches to all other females. I can't name one solid female friend pairing (ala Cheryl/Lindsey, Nancy/Mitzeee). They're all out to get each other - I guess that kind of applies to the men too but we've never really seen groups of male friends on HO.

Completely agree. I think Jessica Fox is a really good actress and I love Nancy and really hope she comes back soon with something other than boosting the Roscoes. She's far and away my favourite actress on the show

we clearly use different criteria to judge good acting. I'd agree with you about Alex Fletcher and I dont really get all the hatred for her character. I certainly dont agree with a lot of Diane's behaviour but I have a lot of sympathy for her as a woman who has been treated really badly by so many people. I can also understand how almost unbearable it must be to have to accept that her natural daughter is being brought up by someone else. Its a horrendous situation for all of them and not really surprising that emotions run high.
