At the beginning it was a fun, albeit silly, look at the week’s news.
Widdicombe was funny, Brooker did well in the 'ignorant lad' role and Adam Hills kept the show ticking away nicely.
The show became quite popular, not just in my household, but overall as well.
The last 12 months or so though and it really has changed. I like to think I’m fairly liberal, a typical Labour voter but probably more at the centre. That being said, the show has become ridiculous.
The shouty, moralistic, 'right on' approach really isn't working (and it's mainly Hills, rather than Josh and Adam). It isn't particularly humorous either. I think they're trying so hard to be 'edgy' that they've forgotten what made the show so popular to begin with.
The Piñata thing with Jeremy Hunt was embarrassing (and I really don't like Hunt, but come on) and scraping the barrel somewhat. I really can't stand Hills calling people "dicks" just because they have done something that perhaps he doesn't agree with politically. Is he 12 years old? Are we as viewers?
I don't like the patronising "and here's the thing..." from Hills as well, before he goes on a slightly biased and generally incorrect 'rant'.
If the show wants to be taken seriously as a satirical political show, then there needs to be some balance. Not every viewer is going to be far left; they're only alienating some, if not most, of their audience by doing so. HIGNFY does this well and is a lot more popular than TLL - and has been for 20 odd years.
I really rolled my eyes when Corbyn was going to be a guest (I thought he had a live thing with Sky News tonight?). As I can imagine the direction the show will take.
If Hills actually interviews him, grills him on a few things, but also has a bit of a laugh with him, then fair enough. I suspect it will be the usual backside kissing and EU love in though.”
Very good summary of the way the show has developed.
