You can watch the start as she isn't on yet.

Haven't a clue what the last post means, but I thought this week's was one of the better ones. Plenty going on to discuss!

Are they struggling for guests now? BoJo's dad was a disaster, and I don't see why Carrie Fisher warrants being on repeatedly. Otherwise a good show.

I was thinking this.

I think a lot of people are avoiding the show now. Fisher didn't offer anything and has been on before.

It's too heavy and political for comedians to come on to be lighthearted, have a chat and promote their projects (in amongst the brief pisstaking over the weeks news) - which was essientially the show before 2015.

We have loads of comedians who specialise in political humour/satire and loads of celebs of other sorts with definite political views. If it was just 'we're going to talk politics and we have this specific agenda' they wouldn't have problems at all.

It may be they are having trouble getting guests in because it's the summer so there's much less going on for a lot of celebs and comedians to promote. The TV schedules are full of sport and will be for a while yet (Olympics starts in a couple of weeks doesn't it?), it's a low period for releases of most other sorts of media (no blockbuster films etc) and a lot of comedians are busy preparing for Edinburgh and probably don't want to waste material on TLL when they could get people paying to hear it at the Fringe.

It is also possible TLL's schedule has led to a bit of 'burn out' of guests - it seems to have been on pretty much every week for ages and eventually they simply are going to run out of people they want to have on who also want to go on. The Olympics/Paras will help wth that as they can concentrate on having sports people who don't normally get media exposure as guests and will be mostly talking about the games. After that they probably should have some time off - maybe come back in October/November in time for the leadership elections & party conferences or something.

TL-DR - coincidence does not imply causality. There are several possible explanations, we don't know what is going on behind the scenes so we can't say definitely.

Loved last nights show. Some really moments from Alex and Adam.

Loved all the stuff they did about Labour, vote of no confidence, all those resignations, comedy goldmine.
This stuff writes itself

Oh wait - none of that happened or The Last Leg would have mentioned it ....obviously.

Long piece on Farage's speech in the European Parliament, but not a word about Labour.

Only mention of Corbyn was one sentence at the end of the puppet show sketch where it showed a puppet of him tied up in knots.

Mock the Week seemed to manage to find humour in the Labour position, and I would not class most of the comedians on there as Right Wing

Looks like I was right, Corbyn and the Labour Party got about 1 minute.

Happy to see Adam apologise for Stanley Johnson's ugly comments last week, and the running "I'd like to apologise for that" gag was funny.

The puppet show was excellent.

I could say it was conspicuous by it's absence but it's not really a surprise any more.

Obviously they need to discuss the run for PM but having a decent opposition party is also very important and there was plenty for them to dig their teeth into.

Mock the Week is repeated later tonight on BBC2, they cover Labour issues, and their show is recorded Tuesday / Weds IIRC.

Conspicuous by it's absence - so exactly like the Labour party then? The ultimate satire of deeming people not important enough to even lampoon anymore.

I did see a tweet along the lines of 'A load of people I've never heard of are resigning from jobs I didn't know existed'!.

Maybe that's the point - you need a well known person to hang satire 'from'. If people don't know the butt of the joke, then the joke pretty much always falls flat. Pretty much the only people in the whole labour party (I was going to add 'debacle' to that but the sentence works on it's own) who people know are Corbyn, Hilary Benn, McDonnell and Watson. And none of those have the charisma and therefore satirical appeal of Farage or Johnson (and Benn has been pretty peripheral to the goings on in fact).

The only time it's actually worked to satirise boring people is the Spitting Image puppet of John Major, where his utter blandness became the joke of itself. And you can't do that now because Spitting Image already did it.

The basic question is this : how do you make a funny story out of the labour party eating itself? It's basically a bunch of uncharismatic people being nasty to each other. I'm not a comedy writer but...

Strangely enough, from a post in the Mock The Week thread this week...

So either apparently a lot of TV comedy has suddenly become radially left wing, or maybe right wing political views and a sense of humour don't really go together. People can gather their own evidence as to which they find most likely.

On tonight's show, I have to say I did actually cheer when the anteater made it back to the log without ending up falling in the water. I'm like that. And the running gag about Greg's shirt was very well done.

Yes, I loved the anteater. Greg Davies is very witty. Adam seems to have toned down the ranting. A funny, enjoyable show.

Yes better show tonight, more light hearted, less ranty.

The results of the Blair poll was however no surprise.

I really enjoyed that! I was laughing the whole way through it. Greg's always funny on it but I did like it when they all cracked up at certain points.

Caught 5 mins of him on Saturday kitchen earlier. He was complaining that he was hot as he'd had to wear a jacket as people kept commenting on him always wearing that checked shirt
