Love mushy peas! Never heard of having them with mint sauce though, sounds interesting

Fish and chips is just not the same without a good portion of mushy peas for me.

Pie, peas and gravy at the football too.

I'm hungry now

Mushy peas are good with chips. Bachelor's or Harry ramsdens cans, about 60p a go.

They go quite runny, but thicken up as they cool slightly.

Morrisons do a microwavable frozen 4 pack of single servings, which are more like the chip shop mushy peas. Only £1 and way better than the tins.

Yep a northern thing glad you enjoy.

I did try when I was in lancashire mushy peas and chips and gravy - just ugh. But then again i have never really liked typical English food, hate sausage and mash and as for pie mash and liquor - puke.

love my roasts though so not all bad

Mushy peas and mint sauce is a Nottingham thing, always had mushy peas but never with mint sauce until I went to live in Nottm.
I have just soaked and pressure cooked 2 packets of Morrison's own brand dried peas, they are very good - had some for tea, soup with some for tomorrow's lunch and the rest goes in individual bags in the freezer.

Unfortunately mushy peas has been something that passed Edinburgh chippys by, well as far as my experience goes, which is quite extensive given my age. Ahem.

However I'm a big fan, especially as I don't like the texture of normal peas (that 'pop' - yuck). I saw Jamie Oliver make it with frozen peas, a small sliced potato and some tartare sauce so that's the version I have with my fish and chips.

Ah, chefs with their continuing changing of the meanings of 'classic' recipies.

I've done that before (without the potato though) but I wouldn't call it mushy peas. Pea puree maybe? Very nice indeed. I do prefer garden peas over marrowfat.

Mushy peas are a distinct thing though.

I quite like mushy peas (also like regular peas too) advantage is they dont roll off the plate.

You can get 3 'smallish' tins for £1 from Iceland - go nicely with a Cottage pie.
