Following the news that EE actor, James Bye, has been injured by a knife as reported here, EastEnders are now coming up with a way in which the character of Martin can injure himself in order to write the injury into the soap.

Looking back on previous times where incidents have happened to the soaps cast, here are some of the incidents that I've managed to find...

Timothy West, otherwise known as Stan Carter to fans of the soap, of course suffered from an ankle injury not so long after his introduction on screen forcing the character of Stan to move into the Queen Vic with Mick Carter and family. Timothy is quoted in the article saying “It was because of my own real injury, a broken ankle. When I did that, EastEnders wrote in an accident for Stan.

“Having your ankle pinned means you spend quite a lot of time in plaster.” More on that here.

Aykut Hilmi A.K.A Nico Papadolpoulos suffered with a back injury during 2013 which caused him to cancel plans to train for the London Marathon which he ran in support of Alzheimer’s Society. More on that here.

Adam Woodyatt suffered from head and shoulder injuries back in 2003 following a cycling accident whilst training for a charity bike ride. Unfortunately, Woodyatt was forced to cancel plans meaning he was unable to cycle from Land's End to cycle the 900 miles to John O'Groats. More on that here.

Following recent news regarding his return to the soap, it was interesting to read about the injury Dean Gaffney received after his crash on the A38 in Derby where he suffered head injuries and later received treatment in hospital. More on that here.

Can anyone think of any other injuries that soap cast have incurred and perhaps have had to have them written into the show ?

Poor James, I wish him a speedy recovery. I wonder how they'll write it in?

Doesn't Martin play football? they could use that as an explanation.

I can only assume it'll be something to do with what BadLadAsh said below otherwise it will end up being something like falling off ladder...

Ouch - poor James! Although personally I would keep the story like the original story. It's silly and stupid but aren't most injuries like that?

You have a good point! Although, I suppose it could depend on how severe the injury is, and if the writer of the ep will be thinking logically at the time

Or maybe our Stace no longer leaves him hanging and high fives him just a little too hard

yeah but then this forum will forever add him to the "playing himself category".

his card will be well and truly marked

LMAO I've always called it a seed. But just googled it they're also called 'pits' which I've never used.

I hope he's alright that must have hurt like hell. Should have done it on a chopping board instead of in his hand.

Ouch. Glad James is OK! I'll bet that bled like crazy. It can be very disturbing to see. I hope they write him a really interesting story to explain the injury.

For whatever it's worth, the avocado seed is generally referred to as a pit here in the US.

Ooohh poor guy. He was very lucky he didn't bleed to death cutting an artery! I bet he was scared stiff. I'm glad he's OK, well as OK as he can be. Wish him a speedy recovery.

Steve McFadden has had a couple of injuries in the past but I can't remember if they were ever referenced in the show. I just remember Phil wearing a cast on screen and wondering how he injured himself but then I just dismissed it as a real life injury.

Does anyone know what exactly happened to James? I presume it was a kitchen accident rather than a stabbing?

Samantha Womack fell down the stairs several years ago. But instead of writing her injuries into the show, several scripts were re-written and she was off screen for a bit.

For those eager eyed viewers, or just viewers with eyes for that matter... Scenes aired during tonights ep featuring James' (aka Martin) real life injury with the cover up story being Martin having "too many pints"

Rumour has it, when Lilly gets started on the drink, she doesn't stop until she drinks the competition under the table, poor Martin didn't stand a chance

Not that it stood out at all, if you blinked, you'd have missed it
