I'm not happy about this! I have a horrible feeling that he will completely ruin ED.
Yep me too. The cynic in me also think he's been purposefully chosen to pull ED back down to its 3rd spot rating. Can't have the 'poor relation' soap outdoing it's 'top' cousins now can we? Poor ED, been showing up it's ugly sister and nicking the Beeb soap's ratings! It's a wonder it hasn't had the axe

Willing to give the new bloke a chance. At least it isnt Kirkwood.
Fed up of seeing that Corrie live episode advert. Would it be too much to give Emmerdale some promo?
Willing to give the new bloke a chance. At least it isn't Oates. He can NOT be worse.

I am an Emmerdale fan, but yes, I am going to give the new man a chance. Hopefully he does a good job and proves people like myself wrong and he has a bit more loyalty to the show than the previous two producers.

I enjoyed Kate's work, but it seems like she is another producer who has no loyalty to Emmerdale, just like Stuart. Both waited until they got the chance to produce a bigger soap and left Emmerdale when they got it. It seems like Coronation Street gets the sloppy seconds from Emmerdale though, which is funny I like both soaps, but it is funny.

Is it so difficult to find a producer who has enough good grace and loyalty to their show to say "no thanks I'm happy where I am". Money's not everything, or at least it shouldn't be.

Actually to me it feels like Itv tests the water with Emmerdale and if they're happy with the producer they move them to Corrie. Emmerdale has become a stepping stone for producers who want to be at Corrie.

Good point. ITV need to treat Emmerdale with more respect and get a producer who will stay at Emmerdale for the long term, if they are good. ITV should not use Emmerdale as a stepping stone for producers. Emmerdale is a good quality soap and deserves more respect from ITV.

But that implies that they thought Blackburn was doing a good job at Emmerdale.

I take slight pleasure in nearly all of us being right about him being useless and saying that he would ruin Corrie.

Listen to us, ITV. We know of what we post!

Kath Beedles turned Corrie down when she left Emmerdale.

But it WAS an accident that he deliberately covered up
That didn't stop Belle being dragged into a courtroom when she acted in self defense and accidentally killed Gemma.

Robert was physically abusing Katie when she fell through the floor, she was no physical threat to him. Let's not pretend that, had she not fell through the floor, he would have let her leave alive.

Was she the producer in the original King family era? ED was unmissable then too, so whoever it was would be a welcome return.

I've noticed of all the news articles, the threads on here it's all about what KO will do at Corrie and how good she's done for Emmerdale, but there is not one mention of what this new person means for ED or what he's like, what to expect, or anything. Can't make up my mind if that's a good thing or not.

It's not a good thing. It just shows that nobody cares how good a job this guy does at Emmerdale.

I suppose he has the motivation of possibly getting moved to Corrie if he does well there so won't want to be too drastic.

It does seem like that these days doesn't it?

I suspect with that type of job, the people who do it will like new challenges. Corrie being the Grande Dame of soaps ( and treated as ITV's headline soap) is a good opportunity for someone ambitious, espeically asf it's the same company and they probably don't have to relocate. I think there's more to it than money.

Kate Oates worked for Corrie in the past, as did Blackburn for Emmerdale.

The new producer has a hard time ahead of him, putting right the mess that Kate Oates has made of Emmerdale. I hope he can rescue our rural soap.

She won't do it. She's done all the soaps now (storyliner in Corrie) and she's moved on to a film company - although she did get a soap off the ground in Singapore recently.

The Kings were introduced by Steve November, but she took over after he went in 2004.

That's what I'm afraid of. I am genuinely extremely pleased that The Hat is finally leaving CS (even if I don't come across that way), but it's marred, because I am absolutely furious that ITV have thrown Emmerdale to the wolves to make it happen. The lack of comments, articles, write ups speak volumes and spell it out loud and clear - they are only interested and bothered about Coronation Street and couldn't give a shit about Emmerdale. The silence surrounding Emmerdale is truly deafening.

So she did the really great 2006-2006/7 era?

From Wiki (but true )
She had worked as a producer and series editor for the ITV soap before taking on the role.During her time on the soap, she was responsible for many major storylines, including the Kings River showhome explosion storyline, and the Tom King kidnap plot. She was also responsible for the Who Killed Tom King? storyline, which was nominated for Best Storyline at the 2007 British Soap Awards. Under her tenure Emmerdale was nominated for a BAFTA for three consecutive years, won an RTS Award and the Broadcast Digital Award for the Who Killed Tom King online channel. In January 2008, it was announced that Beedles was stepping down from her role.

She was really great, ED was on fire in those years, shame she won't come back. If we can't have Kate Oates back, she'd be my other choice of producer

It is very disheartening.

At least Ian McLeod seems pretty happy with getting the opportunity to work at Emmerdale so I will give him the benefit of the doubt and see what he comes up with. He is still just the story producer, there are others above him who won't allow him to change the identity of the show too much (I expect)

I don't care who the producer is. If I like it I like it regardless of who produces it.

Emmerdale, after Oates has brought it to its knees, will be a challenge for a new producer; but at least he can't make it any worse. I hope he has more than blanket coverage of sex and violence planned for our rural soap..

It is a shame, because for me, Emmerdale has been the better quality soap over the last few years. I like both Coronation Street and Emmerdale, but Coronation Street is overrated, while Emmerdale doesn't get the credit and recognition it deserves. For me, Coronation Street has only improved this past year.
